This is a compact zoom lens for the classic East German Praktica B and Jenaflex manual focus 35mm SLR cameras such as the B200, BCX, BMS, BX20 and many others (see list below). Adapters are available for several digital cameras - see the Compatibility section below. This one's in very good condition, and comes boxed with front and rear lens caps.

This focal length range is excellent for general use, covering everything from 28mm and 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 70mm short telephoto/portraits, plus of course all the settings in between. The diagonal angle of view is around 75 to 34 degrees on film cameras. It's the ideal range to keep on your camera at all times, and is great for landscapes, travelling, holidays, family pictures, portraits and many more subjects.

Praktica B fit lenses can be used on the Panasonic Lumix G, Olympus Pen and other Micro Four Thirds or Sony NEX digital cameras with suitable adapters (not included). They work with manual focusing (using Live View on the camera's EVF and/or LCD), and manual diaphragm, in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes. The effective focal lengths are increased because of the smaller sensors, which gives this lens a field of view equivalent to 56-140mm (MFT) or 42-105mm (NEX) respectively.

There's a very large, rubber covered zoom and focusing ring, and the lens focuses all the way down to 0.4m (16 inches) at all focal lengths. This gives a macro reproduction ratio of 1:4 (one quarter life size) at 70mm, filling the frame with a subject as small as 96x144mm (4x6 inches) on film, and even smaller on most digital. Distances are clearly marked in feet and meters, with infrared index, depth of field scales and macro reproduction ratios.

Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering (using electrical contacts) on all Praktica B and Jenaflex cameras, compatible with auto and manual exposure modes where available. Maximum aperture is f/3.5-4.5, and stops down to f/22-32. Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. This independent Sirius MC lens is nicely made with a metal barrel and lens mount, smooth controls and clear markings. Standard 55mm filter thread. It measures only around 75mm (3 inches) long at its smallest settings on the camera, and weighs just 345g.

The lens is in fully working order, mounts securely and all couplings work correctly (checked on our Praktica camera). The controls operate smoothly, each aperture clicks positively into position and the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically it has a smooth black finish with clean paintwork, and there is only the usual evidence that it's been used, including some small scratches around the bayonet mount, minor surface marks here and there, etc. The box is showing signs of age but complete, and the caps are in good condition.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape!

Compatibility
This lens has the Praktica B mount, and fits all bayonet Praktica cameras including the B100, B200, BMS, BCA, BC-1, BC-3, BCX, BX20, BX20s, BX21 and others. It also fits the Carl Zeiss Jenaflex AC-1 and AM-1 cameras, which use the same Praktica B lens mount. Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering with electrical contacts (a Praktica innovation!), compatible with auto and manual exposure modes.

Praktica B lenses do not fit older Praktica screw mount cameras, or any other makes directly.

Praktica B fitting lenses can be used on digital cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1, G2, G3, G10, GH1, GH2, GF1, GF2, GF3 and GX1, Olympus Pen E-P1, E-P2, E-P3, E-PL1, E-PL1s, E-PL2, E-PL3, E-PM1 and other Micro Four Thirds, Sony NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-5, NEX-5N, NEX-7 and other NEX models using suitable adapters (not included).
