This is a compact zoom lens for the classic Canon FD and FL manual focus SLR cameras such as the A-1, AE-1, T70, T90, F-1 and many others (see list below). It's not directly compatible with EOS film or digital models, though adapters are available for these and several other cameras - see the Compatibility section below. This one's in very good condition with a minor optical mark, and comes with front and rear lens caps.

This focal length range is excellent for general use, covering everything from 28mm and 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 70mm short telephoto/portraits, plus of course all the settings in between. The diagonal angle of view is around 75 to 34 degrees on film cameras. It's the ideal range to keep on your camera at all times, and is great for landscapes, travelling, holidays, family pictures, portraits and many more subjects.

Canon FD fit lenses can be used on the Panasonic Lumix G, Olympus Pen and other Micro Four Thirds, Pentax Q, Ricoh GXR Mount A12, Samsung NX and Sony NEX digital cameras with suitable adapters (not included). They work with manual focusing (simple using Live View on the camera's EVF and/or LCD), and manual diaphragm, in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes. The effective focal lengths are increased because of the smaller sensors, which gives this lens a field of view equivalent to 56-140mm (MFT), 154-385mm (Q) or 42-105mm (GXR, NX, NEX) respectively.

There's a very large, rubber covered zoom and focusing ring, and the lens focuses all the way down to 0.4m (16 inches) at all focal lengths. This gives a macro reproduction ratio of 1:4 (one quarter life size) at 70mm, filling the frame with a subject as small as 96x144mm (4x6 inches) on film, and even smaller on most digital. Distances are clearly marked in feet and meters, with infrared index, depth of field scales and macro reproduction ratios.

Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering on all Canon FD manual focus cameras, compatible with all exposure modes including program on suitable cameras (see below). Maximum aperture is f/3.5-4.5, and stops down to f/22 plus AE (Auto Exposure) setting for shutter priority and program modes on suitable cameras. There's a lock on the auto setting, which isn't always the case with independent lenses.

Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. This independent Sirius MC lens is nicely made with a metal barrel and lens mount, smooth controls and clear markings. Standard 55mm filter thread. It measures only around 75mm (3 inches) long at its smallest settings on the camera, and weighs just 335g. Auto-rotating breech lock fitting for all Canon FD and FL cameras.

The lens is in fully working order and very good condition. The zoom/focus control works smoothly with little play yet barely slips when pointed up or down, the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil, and the A lock holds securely. The glass is generally clean with no fungus, misting or other serious problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks than usual, plus a small scratch on the rear element. This won't have a significant effect on the pictures, except possibly with a slight reduction in contrast against the light. Our price reflects this, and the usual money back guarantee applies. Cosmetically the lens has a smooth black finish, clear markings and only normal signs of use, with just the usual surface marks here and there - mainly around the breech lock ring. The caps are in good condition.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's in nice shape!

This lens fits all Canon FD manual focus cameras, including the F-1, F-1n, F-1N, FTb, FTbN, EF, TLb, TX, AE-1, AT-1, A-1, AV-1, AE-1 Program, AL-1, T50, T60, T70, T80 (manual focus only) and T90. Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure modes including aperture priority, shutter priority, program and manual modes on appropriate models. Works with all metering modes including spot on suitable cameras. Also fits the earlier FL models, including the FT, FP, FX, TL, Pellix and others, with stopped down metering where appropriate.

The breech lock mounting system is one of the most reliable available, and is largely free from the effects of wear, as the mating surfaces don't move in relation to each other. It was used on Canon FL and early FD lenses, and independent types.

FD lenses and accessories do not directly fit the autofocus EOS cameras, any digital cameras or the EF-M. Not suitable for the Canon EX-EE or EX-Auto, other Canon cameras or any other makes. Adapters are available (not included) for use on EOS cameras with manual focusing and diaphragm operation, using stopped down metering in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes only. Adapters with optical elements are required for focusing to infinity. Adapters are available (not included) to use FD lenses on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1, G2, G3, G10, GH1, GH2, GF1, GF2, GF3 and GX1, Olympus Pen E-P1, E-P2, E-P3, E-PL1, E-PL1s, E-PL2, E-PL3 and E-PM1, plus the Pentax Q, Ricoh GXR Mount A12, Samsung NX5, NX10, NX11, NX100, NX200, Sony NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-5, NEX-5N and NEX-7 digital cameras, with manual focusing to infinity via the EVF or LCD, using manual diaphragm in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes only. The IS (Image Stabilization) feature works on the Olympus cameras, with focal lengths set manually.
