This lightweight autofocus standard zoom lens with macro close focusing is the perfect match for all Minolta AF 35mm, Konica Minolta and Sony Alpha digital SLR and SLT cameras. It's in very good condition, and comes with lens caps.
The extremely useful zoom range covers 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 80mm short telephoto/portrait ranges, plus of course all the focal lengths in between. It's a great range to have if you want to travel with just one lens on your camera, and suitable for landscapes, portraits, candids, family pictures, travelling and many other subjects. The zoom ring is large with a ribbed rubber grip for smooth, easy handling. On Konica Minolta and most Sony Alpha digital SLRs the effective focal length range is equivalent to approximately 42-120mm, which is an excellent range for portraits, glamour, fashion and many other subjects. Full frame coverage on the Sony Alpha A850 and A900.
This AF lens focuses automatically or manually down to a closest setting of 0.5m (20 inches) at all focal lengths, for a macro reproduction ratio of 1:5.3 at 80mm. The manual focus ring is slim with a ribbed grip for improved handling. Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all normal exposure and metering modes, except ADI which requires D lenses. The maximum aperture is f/3.5-5.6, and the lens stops down to f/16-27 for maximum depth of field.
Multicoated (MC) glass to reduce flare against the light, and increase contrast and colour fidelity. Optical construction is 8 elements in 8 groups. Standard 58mm filter thread plus external bayonet mount for the special lens hood (supplied), which reduces the chance of flare even further, and reverses over the front of the lens for storage. This independent Phoenix lens is nicely made (in Japan), measures under 80mm (3 inches) long on the camera at its smallest settings, and weighs a mere 265g.
An nice autofocus standard zoom lens for Minolta AF, KM and Sony DSLR users!
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10), slight play
The lens is in very good condition and fully working order. The zoom and manual focus controls work quite smoothly (there's some play in the manual focusing ring and front section, but this is common in AF lenses and doesn't cause any problems), the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil. The glass is very clean with no scratches, fungus, misting or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the results at all. Cosmetically it has a smooth finish, clean paintwork and only normal signs of use, including some surface scratches and scrapes here and there, etc. The accessories are in good condition and fit and work fine.
No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's in nice shape!

Compatibility
This lens fits Sony Alpha digital SLR and SLT cameras including the A33, A35, A55, A65, A77, A100, A200, A230, A290, A300, A330, A350, A380, A390, A450, A500, A550, A560, A580, A700, A850 and A900, the Minolta RD-175 (Agfa ActionCam), plus the Konica Minolta Maxxum/Dynax 5D and 7D digital SLR cameras which use the Minolta A mount.
All normal exposure modes work OK (including program), and all metering modes are suitable including multi-pattern and spot. Some ADI modes on newer bodies and flashguns require distance information from the lens, and these modes work only with Minolta D lenses. This doesn't cause a problem in practice as you can use an alternative mode (such as pre-flash TTL) if required. Anti-shake features work on suitable digital cameras.
It fits all Minolta 35mm AF (auto focus) SLR cameras including the 5000 AF (Maxxum 5000, Alpha 5000), 7000 AF (Maxxum 7000, Alpha 7000), 9000 AF (Maxxum 9000, Alpha 9000), Dynax/Maxxum 3000i (Alpha 3700i), 5000i (Alpha 5700i), 7000i (Alpha 7700i), 8000i (Alpha 8700i), 2xi, 3xi (Alpha 3xi), 5xi (Alpha 5xi), 7xi (Alpha 7xi), 9xi (Alpha 9xi), 300si , RZ330si (Alpha 101si), Dynax 303si (Maxxum QTsi, Alpha 360si), Dynax 404si (Maxxum STsi, Alpha Sweet S), Dynax 500si (Maxxum 400si), RZ 430si, 450si (Alpha 303si), Dynax 500si super (Maxxum 500si), RZ530si, 550si (Alpha 303si super), Dynax 505si (Maxxum HTsi), Dynax 505si super (Maxxum XTsi, Alpha Sweet), 600si, 650si (Alpha 507si), 700si (Alpha 707si), 800si (Alpha 807si), Dynax 60 (Maxxum 70, Alpha 70), Dynax 3L (Maxxum 3), Dynax 4, Dynax 3 (Maxxum 4, Alpha Sweet II L), 5 (Alpha Sweet II), 7 (Alpha 7), 9 (Alpha 9), the Minolta or Konica Minolta Dynax 30, Dynax 40 or Maxxum 50.
All normal exposure modes work OK (including program), and all metering modes are suitable including multi-pattern and spot. Some ADI modes on newer bodies and flashguns require distance information from the lens, and these modes work only with Minolta D lenses. This doesn't cause a problem in practice as the camera switches to an alternative mode (such as pre-flash TTL) as required.
Minolta AF-fit lenses and accessories are NOT suitable for the Minolta or Konica manual focus SLRs, the APS-format Vectis cameras or the digital RD-3000 (though an adapter was available - please contact us for details), or Dimage digital cameras.
Minolta AF fit lenses can be used on the Sony NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-5, NEX-5N and NEX-7 digital cameras with the Sony LA-EA1 or LA-EA2 Alpha-to-E-mount adapters (not included). All exposure and metering features work as normal, and AF works with the LA-EA2. Effective focal lengths are increased by 50 per cent because of the smaller sensor. Independent adapters are available (not included) to use Minolta AF fit lenses on Olympus and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds digital cameras, with manual diaphragm and focusing only, and double the effective focal length.
Some independent lenses don't work properly on digital cameras, but we've checked this one on a Sony Alpha A100 digital, and it works fine!
