This is a handy little wide angle lens in good condition, with lens caps. It's suitable for Olympus OM 35mm manual focus SLR cameras, plus PF and AF models (see below) with restrictions, and can be adapted to many digital cameras including Canon EOS, Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds, Samsung NX and Sony NEX.
28mm is the most popular focal length for wide lenses, being much wider than a standard lens, but not so wide that distortion is too obvious. It's great for landscapes, interiors, group shots, travelling and all sorts of other subjects. The diagonal angle of view is around 75 degrees on film cameras.
With a suitable adapter (not included) OM manual lenses are usable with restrictions on most Canon EOS, Olympus, Panasonic and other Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds, Samsung NX and Sony NEX digital cameras, with effective focal lengths increased on most models due to the smaller sensors. This gives a field of view equivalent to 45mm (many EOS), 42mm (Samsung, Sony) or 56mm (Olympus, Panasonic) with manual focusing and diaphragm, compatible with metered manual and aperture priority auto exposure and stopped down metering. On selected Olympus models the cameras' IS (Image Stabilizer) system works to reduce camera shake at slow shutter speeds, with the focal length set manually. It's also usable on other digital cameras (see the Compatibility section below).
Maximum aperture is a fast f/2.8, stopping down to f/22 in full stops. Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all manual and auto exposure modes on manual focus OM cameras. A depth of field preview button is provided. Close focusing down to under 0.3m (12 inches), with distances clearly marked in feet and meters, plus depth of field scale (0.7m/2.5ft to infinity at f/22) and infrared index. The focusing ring has a rubber grip for secure handling. This is a manual focus lens, but is also usable on AF/PF cameras (see below).
Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. Standard 49mm filter thread (the same size as many OM Zuiko lenses) which does not rotate when focusing, making the lens much easier to use with polarizing, graduated or square filters and other accessories. This independent Miranda MC lens is nicely made (in Japan), with a solid, metal barrel and lens mount. It measures under 40mm (1.5 inches) long on the camera at infinity, and weighs only around 165g.
A useful little wide angle lens for Olympus OM users, and many others!
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The lens is in good condition and fully working order. The focusing action is a little uneven, but doesn't stick or slip. The diaphragm blades stop down and open up smartly with no sign of oil, and each aperture clicks into position positively. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically there is only the usual evidence that it's been used, including some surface scratches and scrapes around the barrel and the control rings, some minor paint wear around the aperture ring and on the lens mount, etc. The caps are in good condition.
No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged and overall it's in good shape!
