This is an excellent 2x model with six elements for optimum quality. Cheaper types usually only have four elements, and results typically won't be as good as this one. The glass is also multicoated to reduce flare and light loss and increase contrast. Plus, the optical section can be removed for use as a macro extension tube. It's suitable for most Contax/Yashica manual focus SLR cameras (see list below), and is in nice condition with case, instructions and front/rear caps.

The converter fits between the camera and lens, and doubles the focal length. It can be used with just about any lens (except some very wide/old types, where the rear elements protrude too far), but work best with standard, telephoto and zoom lenses. A 50mm standard becomes a 100mm portrait lens, and a reasonably priced 70-210mm becomes a 140-420mm, which would usually be very expensive.

The converter couples to the camera and lens auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems, and will work in all exposure and metering modes on suitable Yashica manual focus cameras (see below), including program. Also works on many Contax models, though some have restrictions (see below). TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the 2 stops exposure adjustment required automatically.

The close focusing distance of the original lens is retained, so you get extra magnification for close ups. A zoom lens that focuses down to 1:4 (one quarter life size) on its own will manage 1:2 (half life size) with the converter. PLUS... the optical section is removable, and this leaves a 35mm extension tube for close up (macro) focusing. The magnification depends on the lens, but will be around full life size (1:1) with a 35mm wide angle lens, and better than half life size (1:2) with a 50mm standard. Longer lenses will give less magnification, but greater working distances. A key is supplied to assist removal and fitting.

This independent Super Paragon PMC 6E converter is nicely made (in Japan) with metal barrel and lens mounts, rubber grip, and a high standard of fit and finish. It adds only around 35mm (1.5 inches) to the length of the lens attached, and weighs only around 165g.

The converter is in fully working order, with all couplings working smoothly. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, beyond some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically there's only the usual evidence that it's been used, including some surface scratches and scrapes here and there, plus some more obvious scratches on removable section (glass not affected). The accessories are in good condition. No dents or dings, and overall it's in nice shape! Pictures in this listing show the actual item offered for sale.

Compatibility
This converter fits Contax SLR cameras including the RTS, RTS II, 139 Quartz, 137MD, 137MA, S2 and S2b. Fits other models such as the RTS III, 159MM, 167MT, ST, RX, RX II, AX and Aria, too, but without program or shutter-priority modes. Multi-segment metering on the Aria, focus confirmation on the RX, and autofocus on the Contax AX with fast lenses! Works with all Yashica cameras using the Contax/Yashica bayonet mount, with all modes, including program where available. This includes models such as the FX-1, FX-2, FX-3 series, FX-7, FX-70, FX-103, FX-D, FR, FR-1, FR-2 and MP107/108/109.

Contax/Yashica lenses do NOT fit the Contax N-series AF models such as the N-1, NX and N Digital, Contax G cameras, any other Contax models or the Yashica autofocus cameras. Not suitable for older Yashica screw thread cameras, or the very early Pentamatic bayonet models.

Simple adapters are available (not included) to use Contax/Yashica-fit lenses and accessories on many Canon EOS, Olympus, Panasonic and Leica Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds, Samsung NX and Sony NEX digital cameras, with manual focusing and diaphragm, compatible with aperture priority auto or manual exposure modes and stopped down metering. They work particularly well on models with an electronic viewfinder (EVF). Please note that the converter accepts Contax/Yashica manual focus lenses only, and can't be used with AF or digital lenses.
