This simple adapter allows you to use hundreds of M42 screw fit manual focus lenses on most Minolta AF 35mm, Konica Minolta 35mm, 5D and 7D digital plus many Sony Alpha digital SLRs. Infinity focusing is maintained (it may focus slightly beyond infinity with some lenses), and as there's no extra glass required the optical quality is not affected. M42 screw was a very popular lens fitting used by German and Japanese manufacturers such as Pentax, Praktica and many others in the 1960s and 1970s, and many of the lenses from these cameras can be given a new lease of life with this adapter. Please check the Compatibility section below, as some types of M42 lens with extra full aperture metering features are not suitable for use with adapters.

You can use manual focusing in aperture priority automatic or metered manual exposure modes on most suitable cameras (see the Compatibility section below), with stopped down metering. You set the aperture on the lens, and the camera sets the shutter speed automatically. Because of the smaller sensor in most digital cameras the effective focal lengths are increased by 50 per cent, so a 50mm lens provides the same field of view as a 75mm on a film camera. Full frame coverage on the Sony Alpha A850 and A900.

It's simple to use - you can either fit the adapter to the lens first, then bayonet the combination onto the camera, or fit the adapter to the camera first and then attach/remove multiple lenses as required. The adapter locks securely onto the camera and is released using the button on the body, and lenses are attached normally using the screw thread. It adds only around 1mm to the length of the lens when attached and weighs just 10g. This is a generic adapter and the make and style may vary slightly, but all are functionally identical.

The adapter is in excellent condition and fully working order. It fits cameras and lenses smoothly, and locks securely onto the body. Cosmetically it shows only the usual signs of use with some surface marks here and there, but no dents, dings or deep scratches.

Compatibility
This adapter fits most Minolta AF 35mm, Konica Minolta 35mm, 5D and 7D digital plus many Sony Alpha digital SLR cameras. Most film cameras work with stopped down metering in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes, but models with program modes only are not suitable for manual lenses or accessories. The Sony Alpha A100 and A700 (plus the A850 and A900 with firmware version 2.00 or higher) work with stopped down metering in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes. Other Alpha DSLR and SLT cameras work with fully manual operation only.

It accepts most M42 screw lenses, including those with manual, preset or semi-automatic or auto/manual diaphragms. Lenses with auto diaphragm only (no manual switch) will only work at full aperture, as there's no way of stopping down.

Please note that this adapter is NOT suitable for some M42 lenses with full aperture metering such as Mamiya Sekor SX for the MSX/DSX, EBC Fujinons for the Fujica ST/AZ, Voigtlander VSL TM, Olympus Zuiko for the FTL, Rikenon EE for the Ricoh TLS-EE, etc. The meter coupling levers foul on the adapter and the lens cannot be screwed fully home. Pentax SMC (Super Multi Coated) Takumar M42 lenses do fit and work fine (the auto/manual switch should be set to manual after fitting the lens to the adapter). Praktica Electric M42 lenses (with electrical contacts for full aperture metering) are usable, as long as they have a manual switch.
