This Miranda MS-2 Super is an excellent 35mm film auto/manual SLR camera body - ideal as an introduction to serious photography, and compatible with a huge range of Pentax K and PK lenses (not included - see below).

The camera has the choice of aperture-priority auto or manual exposure control. On auto, you set the aperture on the lens, and the camera sets the shutter speed. On manual, you set everything yourself for ultimate control, but the camera still indicates whether the exposure is correct. Film speeds can be set over a wide range from ISO 25 to 1600.

Shutter speeds go down to 8 seconds on auto, and run up to 1/1000th of a second. Manual speeds go down to 2 seconds, plus B for longer time exposures. Speeds are set using a handy rocker control in the centre of the mode dial, which is easy to operate with the camera up to your eye. There's a standard thread for a cable release, and an on/off switch to prevent accidental exposures and battery drain, plus a cancellable self timer.

The viewfinder has very comprehensive exposure information, with a scale of LEDs showing auto and manual shutter speeds, plus auto and manual indicators and over and under exposure warnings. On manual, the camera allows full metering, displaying two LEDs for metered and correct exposure, and staying on for a few seconds after you alter the speed for easier operation. The focusing screen is large, bright and easy to use, and has both split image rangefinder and microprism focusing aids.

The camera has a standard hot shoe for flash, usable at all shutter speeds up to a fast 1/125th of a second. It's well built, with a compact, lightweight body, smooth controls and a stylish all-black finish. It has an ergonomic grip on the front to improve handling, and fits the hand really well.

Standard, popular Pentax K (PK) bayonet lens mount, which gives access to hundreds of lenses, both new and used (see below). NOTE: Older Miranda cameras (before the MS series) use a completely different bayonet lens mount.

An excellent SLR camera body, ideal for beginners, students and enthusiasts!

This camera is in fully working order and good condition. The viewfinder is bright and clear with only some specks of dust and other tiny marks (which can't affect the pictures, of course) and all controls operate smoothly and positively. Cosmetically there are the usual signs of use with some surface scratches, scrapes and paint wear here and there. The JCII "Passed" quality control sticker is still in place.

Overall, this is a nice little camera camera in good shape!

Compatibility
The camera accepts the popular Pentax K bayonet fit lenses (not included). There are hundreds of lenses available in this fitting, from Pentax and many independent manufacturers, at all sorts of prices from bargain basement to exotic.

Pentax K lenses (marked SMC Pentax) and independent K-mount lenses offer auto diaphragm and full aperture metering. The Pentax K mount was also used on cameras by other manufacturers, including some from Chinon, Cosina, Ricoh, Vivitar and many others.

Pentax KA and AF lenses (usually marked SMC Pentax A, F or FA) and most independent Pentax KA or AF-fit lenses will fit and work fine, with manual focusing. The budget Pentax FA-J AF lenses and some newer independent AF lenses are not suitable, as they have no aperture rings. Digital lenses such as Pentax DA and Sigma DC types are not suitable for 35mm cameras.

Adapters are available (not included) for Tamron Adaptall, Vivitar TX, Sigma YS and Soligor I-S lenses, and other interchangeable types. Manual or fixed diaphragm optics and accessories (such as t-mount or mirror lenses, slide copiers, etc.) also work with stopped down metering, using the appropriate T2 mount (not included).

Finally, adapters are available for most M42 screw fit lenses, and Pentax 645 or 67 medium format lenses. These don't retain auto diaphragm, so the lens must be stopped down manually, and metering is at the taking aperture. Metered manual and aperture priority modes will work correctly, though.
