This is an excellent independent flash unit for most Canon EOS 35mm and APS SLR cameras (see below), but not the EOS 300X (Rebel T2, EOS Kiss 7) or any EOS digital cameras. It has a bounce, swivel and zoom head, AF illuminator, and provides fully automatic dedicated TTL flash control.

Zoom flash head with 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (and longer) telephoto positions, to give extra coverage for wide angle lenses, and extra range with telephotos. The flash head tilts up to 90 degrees and swivels up to 330 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions - this is much more useful than bounce only, as seen on many cheaper flash units. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash.

Theoretical maximum range of up to 20m (66 feet) with 50mm f/1.4 lens and ISO 100 film, and up to double this with ISO 400. The guide number is 28m (92 feet) with ISO 100 film at the 50mm zoom setting (less at wide angle, more at telephoto). As with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions.

TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures, compensating automatically for bounce flash, filters, extension tubes/bellows and other factors. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program. Exposure chart on the rear of the flash has film speeds from ISO 25 to 400 (15 to 29 DIN), apertures from f/1.4 to f/32 and distances from 1.8 to 20m (6 to 66 feet). Ready light, test button and auto check light provided.

Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required with suitable cameras. This independent Jessops 280AFC flashgun is compact and lightweight at only 120mm (5 inches) tall on the camera, and 220g without batteries. Takes 4x standard AA batteries, and alkaline types (supplied) are recommended.

An excellent flash unit for Canon EOS film users!

Condition: Mint- (almost as new)
The flash is in excellent condition and fully working order. There's a small amount of play in the swivel movement, but this is common and doesn't cause any problems. Cosmetically there are no dents, dings or deep scratches, but just the usual signs of use including some small surface scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are clean and free from corrosion, and overall it's in great shape!

Compatible with almost all Canon EOS 35mm cameras including the EOS 1, 1V, 1V HS, 1N, 1N RS, 5, 3, RT, 100, 10, 30, 33, 50, 50E, 55QD, 300, 300V, 500, 500N, 600, 620, 630, 650, 700, 750, 850, 1000, 1000F, 1000N, 1000FN, 3000, 3000N, 3000V and 5000, plus the equivalent Rebel, Elan and Kiss models and many others. Also works with the APS EOS IX and IX-7 (IX Lite) models, but NOT the EOS 300X (Rebel T2, Kiss 7) - see below.

Fully auto exposure in all modes, including program. TTL (Through The Lens), OTF (Off The Film) flash metering for the most accurate exposures possible. Automatic setting of shutter speed and aperture in appropriate modes, with flash ready signal in the viewfinder.

Most independent flash units like this one are NOT suitable for any EOS digital cameras, or the EOS 300X (EOS Rebel T2, EOS Kiss 7). These use a completely different E-TTL dedicated flash system, and you need Canon's own EX series flash units, or the latest independent flash units with E-TTL from independent makers which are specifically stated to be digital compatible. Not suitable for Canon manual focus cameras, the EF-M or any other make.
