This is an excellent TTL auto bounce, swivel and zoom AF flashgun for the early Minolta 35mm auto focus SLR cameras - the 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF with standard hot shoe (see below). It's not suitable for the 5000i, 7000i or any later Maxxum, Dynax, Konica Minolta or Sony models. The flash is in good condition, and supplied with Alkaline batteries.
This flashgun has a zoom flash head with settings for 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (or longer) telephoto, to give extra coverage for wide angle lenses, and extra range with telephotos. The head tilts up to 45, 60 and 90 degrees and swivels over 270 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash.
Powerful Guide numbers of 19-37 (m) or 62-120 (feet) with ISO 100 film, depending on the zoom setting. Theoretical maximum range of around 20m (65 feet) with 50mm f/1.4 lens but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. Comprehensive control panel on the rear with film speeds from ISO (ASA) 25 to 1000, apertures from f/2.8 (program) to f/16, and distances from 0.7 to 30m and 3 to 90 feet. Power, ready and auto exposure check indicators are provided.
TTL (Through The Lens) dedicated flash control system for extremely accurate exposures, taking account of factors such as filters and bounce flash automatically. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program, and sets the shutter speed and/or aperture automatically. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight, including slow sync flash in aperture priority mode on the Minolta 7000. Hi and Low power settings - the latter avoids over-exposure close up, and dramatically reduces recycling times.
Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet). Although this independent flash is quite large at around 140mm (5.5 inches) tall, it's lightweight at only 310g without batteries. At the time of listing we have two of these flashes (a Miranda MAF-32 and a Luxon 132AFM), but apart from the name they're exactly the same. Power is supplied by 4x standard AA batteries, and alkaline (included) or rechargeable types can be used. Auto shutoff to conserve battery power.
An excellent flash for early Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF users!
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The flash is in fully working order and good condition. All features work properly, and all controls operate positively. Cosmetically it's in good condition with just the usual signs of use, including some surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are slightly marked (not corroded) but work fine, and the battery compartment cover is slightly loose when empty, but holds securely when batteries are loaded. No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape! At the time of listing we have two of these flashes (a Miranda MAF-32 and a Luxon 132AFM), but apart from the name they're exactly the same.
Includes 4x Alkaline AA batteries
Compatibility
This flash is designed for the Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF 35mm SLR cameras ONLY, with conventional hot shoe fitting. The shutter speed and/or aperture are set automatically when the flash is charged, and flash ready status is indicated in the viewfinder. It also works on the Minolta X-500 (X-570), X-700 and X-700 manual focus models, with TTL flash control (flash ready is indicated by the LED display switching off).
It will NOT fit the later Maxxum/Dynax/Alpha models (from the 5000i and 7000i onwards) with Minolta's new type of flash shoe, though there was a Minolta adapter available (not included). NOT suitable for Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras, other manual focus cameras, or any other make.
Please check our other listings for flash units suitable for Minolta Dynax and Maxxum cameras, and manual focus models.
