This is an excellent independent flash unit for Pentax AF 35mm and medium format SLRs, plus the *ist D, DS and DS2 (Samsung GX-1S) digital SLR cameras (but not manual focus cameras or any other DSLRs - see below). It has a bounce, swivel and zoom head, AF illuminator, provides fully automatic dedicated TTL flash control, and is in good condition with instructions, plus new Alkaline batteries.

The zoom flash head has 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (and longer) telephoto positions, to give extra coverage for wide angle lenses, and extra range with telephotos. These focal lengths are equivalent to around 24/35/55mm on digital, or 55/80/135mm on 645 cameras. The flash head tilts up to 90 degrees and swivels up to 330 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions - this is more useful than bounce only, as seen on many flash units. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash.

The guide number is 28m (92 feet) with ISO 100 film at the 50mm zoom setting (less at wide angle, more at telephoto). Maximum auto range of up to 9m (29 feet), but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures, compensating automatically for bounce flash, filters, extension tubes/bellows and other factors. Automatic, dedicated operation with shutter speed and/or aperture set automatically (depending on the exposure mode) when the flash is charged, and flash ready status shown in the viewfinder. Exposure chart on the rear of the flash has film speeds from ISO 25 to 400 (15 to 29 DIN), apertures from f/1.4 to 32 and distances from 1.8 to 20m (6 to 66 feet). Ready light, test button and auto check light provided.

The flash works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required with suitable cameras. This Jessops 280AFP flashgun is compact and lightweight at only 120mm (5 inches) tall on the camera, and 220g without batteries. Takes 4x standard AA batteries, and alkaline types are recommended (supplied).

An excellent flash unit for many Pentax users!

This flash is in fully working order, charges and fires correctly, and dedicated features work properly with suitable film and digital cameras. Cosmetically it shows just the usual signs of use with some surface scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish. The instructions may be a copy, but are complete and legible.

The battery contacts are clean and free from corrosion, and overall it's in good shape!

This flash can be used on many Pentax 35mm and medium format AF SLR cameras, including the SFX (SF1), SFXn (SF1n), SF7, Z-1 (PZ-1), Z-1P (PZ-1P), Z-10 (PZ-10), Z-20 (PZ-20), Z-70 (PZ-70), MZ-3, MZ-5 (ZX-5), MZ-5n (ZX-5n), MZ-6 (ZX-L), MZ-7 (ZX-7), MZ-10 (ZX-10), MZ-30 (ZX-30), MZ-50 (ZX-50) MZ-50 (ZX-60) MZ-S and *ist 35mm cameras, and the 645N and 645NII medium format cameras. Automatic, dedicated operation with shutter speed and/or aperture set automatically (depending on the exposure mode) when the flash is charged, and flash ready status shown in the viewfinder. TTL Auto flash control system for the most accurate exposures. It's also usable on the Pentax 67 II with a Hot Shoe Grip and Sync Cord (not included).

It's compatible with the Pentax *ist D, DS, DS2 and Samsung GX-1S digital SLRs in TTL mode. ISO settings of 200 or 400 are recommended for TTL flash on digital. Not suitable for any other Pentax or Samsung digital models, which only support P-TTL - see below.

AF flash units are NOT suitable for manual focus Pentax cameras such as the Super A (Super Program), Program A (Program Plus), A3 (A3000), P30 (P3), P30N (P3N), P30T (P3T), P50 (P5) and MZ-M (ZX-M), ME, MX, KM, KX, K2, LX, K1000, Spotmatic and other M42 cameras, the 645 manual focus, EI-2000 digital, or any other makes. Not suitable for the *ist DL, DL2, K100D, K100D Super, K110D, K200D, K10D, K20D, K-m (K2000), K-x, K-r, K-5, K-7, K-01 or 645D digital, or the related Samsung GX-1L, GX-10 or GX-20 models. These digital cameras require P-TTL flash units for full compatibility, but some flashes for Pentax manual focus cameras can be used with restrictions - please check our other listings or contact us for details. Not suitable for Samsung NX cameras.
