This is an excellent flash unit for many Canon EOS digital SLR cameras including the EOS D30, D60, 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 300D, 350D and 400D (but not other DSLRs), the EOS 3, 30, 33, 300, 300V, 300X, 50, 50E, 55 IX and IX7 film cameras, plus selected compact cameras. It has a bounce and zoom head, AF illuminator, and provides fully automatic dedicated E-TTL flash control. It's in very good condition, and comes boxed with a copy of the instructions and a set of new Alkaline batteries.

Wide range zoom flash head with 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard plus 85mm and longer telephoto positions, to give extra coverage for wide angle lenses, and extra range with telephotos. With suitable DSLRs the coverage is suitable for wider lenses because of the smaller sensor. The flash head tilts up to 90 degrees for bounce flash, which gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash, and reduces the chance of redeye.

The guide number is 30m (100 feet) with ISO 100 at the 50mm zoom setting (less at wide angle, more at telephoto). Theoretical maximum range of up to 23m (76 feet) with 50mm f/1.8 lens and ISO 200, and even more at higher ISO settings. As with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. Thyristor circuitry provides faster recycling at close distances. Compatible with cameras that offer flash exposure compensation.

E-TTL (Evaluative Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures, compensating automatically for bounce flash, filters, extension tubes/bellows and other factors. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including program, setting the shutter speed and/or aperture automatically as appropriate.

Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light on selected cameras. This projects a coloured pattern onto the subject for the camera's AF system to lock onto even in complete darkness, and is switched on manually when required.

This independent Jessops 300AFDC flashgun is compact and lightweight at only around 110mm (under 5 inches) tall on the camera, and 200g without batteries. Power is supplied by 4x standard AA batteries, and alkaline disposable (included) or rechargeable NiCd and NiMH types can be used. The battery compartment cover is captive, so it can't easily be dropped or lost. Standard hot shoe fitting, with locking collar for secure mounting.

An excellent flash unit for many Canon EOS SLR users!

The flash is in fully working order (checked on our EOS D30, 20D and 300 cameras) and very good condition with no cracks, splits or deep scratches, but just some small signs of use including minor surface marks in the plastic finish, which feels very slightly sticky in places. The battery contacts are clean with no signs of corrosion. The box is showing signs of age but complete, and the instructions are complete and legible.

Overall, an excellent flash unit in nice shape!

Compatibility
This flash is suitable for the Canon EOS D30, D60 (not 60D), 5D (but not the 5D Mark II or Mark III), 10D, 20D, 30D, 300D, 350D and 400D digital SLRs, plus the Canon Powershot G1, G2, G3, G5, G6 and Pro1 digital cameras. The flash has a low, safe trigger voltage of under 5v (Canon recommends up to 6v for some models and 250v for others).

IMPORTANT NOTE: This model is NOT compatible with later EOS digital models, or any others apart from those listed above.

It's also suitable for Canon film SLR cameras that support E-TTL flash, including the EOS 3, 30, 33, 300, 300V, 300X, 50, 50E, 55 IX and IX7, but NOT any older models which only support TTL.
