This is an excellent auto bounce zoom flashgun for many Canon, Chinon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax 35mm manual focus SLR cameras (but not digital models - see below). It's ideal for photographers with more than one type, or those looking to upgrade. A sliding switch sets the flash to work with each type of camera, and with suitable models (see the Compatibility section below) the shutter speed will be set automatically when the flash is charged, and a ready light will appear in the camera's viewfinder. There's also a standard setting for non-dedicated use on other cameras.
The bounce flash head tilts up to 45, 65 and 90 degrees for bounce flash, which gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash, reduces the chance of redeye and spreads the light out to cover wider lenses. The zoom flash head adjusts for wide angle (35mm), normal (50mm) and telephoto (85mm and longer) lenses, giving wider coverage or greater range as appropriate. An extra wide angle diffuser is supplied for lenses down to 28mm.
Useful guide numbers are around 32m (104ft) at the tele setting, 28m (91 feet) at standard, 24m (78 feet) at wide angle, with ISO 100. This gives a theoretical maximum range of around 20m (65 feet) with ISO 100 film and 50mm f/1.4 lens, or 23m (75 feet) with a 135mm f/2.8 lens and ISO 400 film, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. Two auto exposure modes are available, giving ranges of up to 11.5m (37 feet) at f/2.8, or 8m (26 feet) at f/4 with ISO 100, at the telephoto setting. Thyristor circuitry is used in the auto modes for faster recycling and more flashes per set of batteries, and a full power manual option is provided.
A comprehensive control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances from 1.1 to 18m (3.6 to 60 feet), apertures from f/1.4 to f/22 and film speeds from ISO 25 to 1600. There's a ready light, plus an auto check light confirms correct exposure after the shot has been taken. This independent Miranda 630 CD flashgun is nicely made, yet weighs only around 250g (without batteries), and accepts 4x standard disposable alkaline AA batteries (supplied). Locking shoe fitting for secure mounting.
An excellent flash for manual focus SLR users!
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The flash is in very good condition and fully working order (checked on suitable film cameras), and all the controls work positively. Cosmetically it shows just the usual surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are slightly marked (though not corroded), and work fine. The box and instructions are showing signs of age, but the accessories are in good condition.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape!
At the time of listing we have more than one of this item, but the pictures and description here are representative of all of them.
Boxed with instructions, synchro lead, wide angle diffuser, 3 coloured filters and AA batteries
