This is a great little flash for users of the classic Canon manual cameras, including models such as the T70, A-1, AE-1 Program and many more (see full list in the Compatibility section below). It offers dedicated operation on all Canon A and T cameras, with flash ready indication shown in the viewfinder of suitable cameras. It can also be used on other cameras including Canon EOS and some other digital types, with non-dedicated operation.

Fully automatic exposure control, with two auto ranges plus manual operation. The auto modes give ranges of 1 to 9m (3 to 29 feet) and 0.5 to 4.5m (2 to 14 feet) at f/2.8 or f/5.6 respectively with ISO 100 film. On suitable cameras (see below) the aperture selected is transferred to the camera automatically, and on others you set it manually. The flash covers lenses down to 35mm (or the equivalent on other formats).

Thyristor circuitry provides faster recycling at closer distances in auto modes. Manual mode gives a range of up to 45 feet (13.8m) with 50mm f/1.8 lens and ISO 400 film, and double this range with ISO 400. Guide number 25 (meters) and 81 (feet) with ISO 100 film. Film speeds can be set from ISO 25 to 800. Ready light/test button provided.

Comprehensive control dial on the rear, with film speeds from 25 to 800 ISO (15 to 30 DIN), apertures from f/1 to f/32 and distances from 0.5 to 20m (2 to 50 feet). Takes 4x standard AA batteries (supplied), including disposable alkaline or rechargeable NiCd and NiMH types. The flash is very well made (in Japan), with high quality materials, clear markings and a good standard of fit and finish, as you'd expect from Canon. Standard hot shoe fitting, with locking collar for secure mounting.

An excellent flash for Canon manual focus users!

The flash is in fully working order and good condition with just the usual signs of use, including some small scratches and scrapes in the plastic finish, mainly around the hot shoe. The battery contacts are slightly marked, but have been cleaned and work fine.

No cracks, splits or other damage, and overall it's in nice shape!

Compatibility
This flash is compatible with all Canon manual focus SLR cameras (and others) with a hot shoe, as follows:

It can set shutter speed and aperture automatically on the Canon AE-1, AE-1 Program, A-1, T50, T70, T80 and T90 (not suitable for TTL flash modes). Also works on the F-1N ("New F-1"), but a motor drive or winder is required to set the aperture automatically. It can set the shutter speed automatically on the Canon AT-1, AV-1 and AL-1. The aperture must be set manually to match that set on the flash with these models.

It can also be used on non-dedicated SLRs (such as the T60, FT, FTb, FTbN, EF, TLb, TX and similar models) plus other cameras with a standard (non-dedicated) hot shoe fitting, in auto or manual flash modes with shutter speed and aperture set manually.

FD flash units like this one are not fully compatible with Canon EOS or digital cameras or the manual EF-M, which use a completely different dedicated flash control system. However, it will work with shutter speed and aperture set manually on the camera, and the flash controlling its output depending on the distance. The trigger voltage is very low at under 6v, which should be suitable for all cameras.
