Vivitar was one of the top lens and accessory brands, and this is an excellent TTL dedicated auto flashgun for the early Minolta AF SLR cameras - the 5000, 7000 and 9000 (see below) - but not for later Maxxum, Dynax or digital models. It's boxed with instructions and wide angle diffuser, and comes with batteries.
Guide number is 28m (91 feet) with ISO 100 film. Theoretical maximum range of up to 20m (66 feet) at f/2.8 with ISO 400 film but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures. Comprehensive control panel on the rear, with film speeds from ISO 50 to 1000, and distances from 0.7 to 20m (3 to 66 feet). Ready light, test button and auto check light provided.
Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight, including slow sync flash in aperture priority mode on the Minolta 7000. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet).
This independent Vivitar 628AFM flash is nicely made (in Japan), it even has a serial number! Takes 4x standard AA batteries including alkaline (supplied) or rechargeable types. The battery compartment cover is hinged so it can't easily be dropped or lost.
An excellent flash for early Minolta AF users!
CONDITION: Mint- (almost as new)
The flash is in fully working order (checked on our Minolta 7000AF), and excellent condition. It shows just the usual small signs of use, including some small marks in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are clean with no sign of corrosion. The box is showing signs of age but complete, and the accessories are in good condition.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in great shape!

COMPATIBILITY INFORMATION
This flash is suitable for the Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF SLR cameras ONLY, with conventional hot shoe fitting.
It will not fit the later Maxxum/Dynax/Alpha models (such as the 5000i and 7000i and all later models) with Minolta's new type of flash shoe, though there was a Minolta adapter available (not included). Not suitable for Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras, manual focus cameras, or any other make.
