(trigger voltage is 50v) - With instructions, batteries
This is an excellent little flashgun for many film and digital cameras with a standard hot shoe fitting, including some popular Fujifilm digital models such as the S9500 and S9600 (please see the Compatibility section below). It has a bounce and zoom head, twin flash tubes and is very easy to use, supplied ready to go with instructions and batteries.
The flash head tilts up 90 degrees for bounce flash, which gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash, and reduces the chance of redeye. A secondary flash tube is built in which fills in the shadows when bounce flash is used. Zoom flash head adjusts for wide angle (28mm or 35mm), normal (50mm) and tele (85mm and longer) lenses or the equivalent on other formats, giving wider coverage or greater range as appropriate.
The auto exposure mode provides a range of up to 6m (20 feet) using f/4 with ISO 100 (or f/8 with ISO 400, etc.) and full power manual override is available. The guide numbers vary with the zoom setting from 28m (92 feet) at 85mm, through 25m (82 feet) at 50mm, 21m (69 feet) at 35mm and 18m (59 feet) at 28mm with ISO 100.
An exposure table on the rear of the flash provides distances from 1.5 to 6m (5 to 20 feet), apertures from f/2.8 to f/32 and film speeds from ISO 64 to 400. A test button and ready light are provided, along with an auto check confirmation. The flash is simple to use, and instructions are included.
This independent Hanimex TZ2500 flashgun is nicely made, yet smaller and lighter than many bounce/zoom/twin models at only around 105mm (4 inches) tall on the camera, and a mere 200g without batteries. Power is supplied by 2x standard disposable Alkaline AA batteries (included).
An excellent little flash unit!
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The flash is in very good condition and fully working order. All controls work positively, and it has been checked on our film and digital cameras. Cosmetically it shows just the usual surface marks here and there in the plastic finish, and it smells slightly "electrical". The battery compartment cover is slightly loose when empty (but holds securely when loaded), and the contacts are slightly marked (not corroded) but have been cleaned and work fine. The instructions may be a copy, but are complete and legible.
Includes copy of instructions, plus Alkaline batteries
Compatibility
This flash has the once-standard hot shoe connection which has been fitted to cameras for generations, including many 35mm SLR and rangefinder cameras, medium format models and even many modern digital cameras.
NOTE: This type of flash was originally designed for manual (mechanical) cameras, and has a trigger voltage of around 50v. This isn't particularly high (we've seen older units with hundreds of volts!), but it shouldn't be used with some modern electronic, AF or digital cameras, which typically expect a voltage of around 6v to 24v (ISO standard). Some digital cameras specify a maximum of 250v or even more, in which case this one will be fine. We've checked it on our own Fujifilm S602 Pro (which accepts up to 350v) and it works well. Other Fuji models such as the S9500 and S9600 (250v), S602, S7000, FX4900 and FX6900 (350v) are also compatible. Not recommended for the Fujifilm S100FS or S200EXR (40v) and borderline on the HS10 (50v) down to 28mm zoom only. If in doubt, check with your camera manufacturer for the safe voltage for your equipment. Adapters are available (not included) which isolate the trigger voltage and reduce it to safe levels for other cameras.
