This is an original Konica Extension Bellows unit for the first range of Konica 35mm manual focus SLR cameras from the early 1960s with the Konica F bayonet mount, including the F, FS (not FS-1), FSW, FP (not FP-1) and FM, but NOT the later auto exposure models - see the Compatibility Information section below. Accessories for these cameras are now getting hard to find, and this one is in good used condition, and comes with the original box.

Bellows are one of the best ways of taking really close up shots, with much higher magnification than extension tubes, close up lenses or even dedicated macro lenses. They fit simply between the body and lens, extending the latter for medium to extreme close ups. This model offers extensions from around 33mm to 138mm, for magnification ratios of between 0.7x and 2.5x life size with the 52mm standard lens. This is much more powerful than extension tubes (usually 1x), macro lenses (0.5x or 1x) and macro zooms (usually 0.2x to 0.5x). At these magnifications, you can fill the frame with something as small as an insect, a small detail of a flower or just part of a stamp. Other focal lengths are also usable - wide angles give closer focusing and higher magnification, while telephotos give lower magnification, but with longer and more manageable working distances. Even a 135mm lens can be focused to around 1:1 (life size) when set to its closest focusing distance.

Manual diaphragm operation is used, and there's a lever on the front which can open the lens to full aperture for focusing (this should be held in while mounting the lens). Extra exposure is required as you get closer, and this must be calculated manually as none of these cameras has through the lens metering. The bellows has a focusing knob on one side, and a locking knob on the other. The base has a standard 1/4-inch tripod socket - you get better balance by using this than the one on the camera. The bellows unit measures around 145mm (5.75 inches) long, and weighs just 220g.

The bellows unit is in good condition with just the usual signs of use including some surface scratches and scrapes, plus minor paint wear here and there. The bellows themselves are in good condition, have no pinholes, and are light tight. All controls operate smoothly, and once everything is locked the structure is rigid and square. The box is showing considerable signs of age, and missing some of its end flaps. No dents, dings or other damage, and overall it's in good shape! These bellows fit the early range of Konica 35mm manual focus SLR cameras from the 1960s with the Konica F bayonet mount, including the F, FS (not FS-1), FSW, FP (not FP-1) and FM.

They are NOT suitable for later auto exposure Konica SLR cameras such as the original Auto Reflex, Autoreflex T, T2, T3, T3N, T4, A, A3, TC, TC-X, FC-1, FS-1, FT-1 or FP-1, which have a different bayonet mount. An adapter was available (not included) to use Konica F lenses and accessories on the later AR cameras, but these bellows will only accept F lenses, and not AR ones. Not suitable for Konica Minolta or Sony cameras, which use the Minolta A mount. As far as we know, there are no adapters available for use on any other cameras.
