This is a great little flash for users of the classic Nikon manual focus SLR cameras, plus AF and digital models with restrictions. It provides dedicated operation on suitable cameras, with flash ready indication shown in the viewfinder and shutter speed set automatically when the flash is charged (depending on the camera and exposure mode - see below).

Automatic exposure control from 0.7m (2 feet) up to 5.5m (18 feet) at f/4 with ISO 100 film, or f/8 with ISO 400. Guide number 22 (meters) and 71 (feet) with ISO 100 film. Manual exposure control available. As with all flash units, actual range will depend on the conditions. This flash was designed for manual focus cameras, but it will work on many AF and digital models in aperture priority mode (see below).

This independent Arkon AR22 flash is powered by 3x standard AA batteries, including disposable alkaline (supplied) or rechargeable NiCd and NiMH types. It's nicely made with clear markings and a good standard of fit and finish, measures only around 100mm (4 inches tall) and weighs under 150g without batteries. Standard hot shoe fitting, with locking collar for secure mounting.

The flash is new and unused, though the box is showing some signs of age. We have several of this product, and they've all been opened and inspected by us to ensure they're in new condition and complete. The protective films are still attached to the exposure table and other areas. The actual model number may vary slightly from that shown, but all types have the features described here. Works on many Nikon SLR cameras with simple dedicated operation where appropriate, as follows:

Dedicated operation with automatic setting of shutter speed and viewfinder flash ready indication on manual focus SLR cameras including the Nikon FE, FE2, FM3A, FA, FG, FG-20, F-301 (N2000) and F-601M (N6000), plus AF SLR cameras including the Nikon F-401 (N4004) series, F-501 (N2020), F-601 (N6006), F-801 (N8008), F-801s (N8008s), F50 (N50), F55 (N55), F60 (N60), F65 (N65), F70, F75 (N75), F80 (N80), F90, F90x, F3AF, F4, F5 and Nikon Pronea 600i. Viewfinder indication of flash ready on the Nikon FM-2. Not compatible with TTL or program flash modes.

Also usable on Nikon digital SLR cameras, Nikon-based Kodak and Fujifilm DSLRs, and Nikon Coolpix digital cameras with a hot shoe. These use D-TTL and I-TTL dedicated flash control systems which are not supported by this flash, but they work fine in A (aperture priority) mode, with shutter speed set automatically when charged, aperture set manually and exposure controlled by the flash in conventional auto modes.

Not recommended for other makes of camera with dedicated flash features, but will work fine on digital cameras with a standard non-dedicated hot shoe with a single pin connection (such as the popular Fujifilm S9500 and S9600, Panasonic DMC-FZ10, FZ20 and FZ30 models). It has an extraordinarily low, safe trigger voltage of only 0.7v.
