- Auto or manual focusing
- Built in automatic flash unit
- Standard Nikon lens mount
- Includes 30-60mm zoom lens
-
Includes Nikon case & strap
plus generic front lens cap - Includes film and batteries
This neat little SLR camera will fit easily into the palm of your hand. It's much smaller and lighter than Nikon's 35mm models, and ideal for travelling, holidays and even carrying around "just in case". With the equally minuscule zoom lens included, it's no bigger or heavier than many 35mm zoom compacts, yet can still be used with most Nikon AF lenses.
Note: This is an APS camera so it doesn't accept 35mm film, though APS film and processing are still available at the time of writing (March 2012).
Despite the tiny size, the specification is impressive, and a match for many 35mm cameras. The exposure system has all the popular auto modes, including Variable Program, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority, plus four subject-based modes; Portrait, Landscape, Close-up and Night scenes. While fully manual exposure isn't "officially" available, it is possible with manual focus lenses (see below). The meter uses a highly sophisticated six-segment 3D matrix system for accurate exposure under various conditions. Exposure compensation of up to +/- 2 stops is possible. Full information is shown in the viewfinder, including shutter speed and aperture, plus focus, flash and exposure compensation indicators. The eyepiece is adjustable to suit your eyesight. There's a comprehensive LCD panel on the rear of the camera, too.
Focusing is fully automatic, switches between single and continuous modes depending on the subject, and focus lock is available on first pressure of the shutter release. Focus can be switched to manual, too. The Pronea S can be used with many Nikon and independent AF lenses (see below), and in manual mode with many AI fitting manual focus lenses.
Shutter speeds run from 30 seconds to 1/2000th plus B, and flash synchronizes at up to 1/125th. The flash is built in and retractable, and includes anti-red-eye and slow speed sync features. Film wind and rewind are automatic, and there's a 10-second self timer. Power is supplied by 2x standard CR2 Lithium batteries (included).
In addition to the normal photographic features, the Pronea S has many new ones made possible by the Advanced Photo System (APS). These include foolproof film loading with APS films, Mid Roll Change for swapping films whenever you want, three print formats (Classic 6x4, HDTV 7x4 and Panoramic 10x4-inch), time/date and message printing on the front OR back of your prints (not all processors offer this feature) and many more.
Includes equally tiny 30-60mm IX Nikkor zoom lens
This is equivalent to a 38 to 75mm lens on a 35mm camera, and gives a handy wide angle to short tele/portrait range. It projects little more than an inch from the front of the camera, yet focuses automatically or manually down to 1.2 feet (0.35m), and has a 46mm thread for filters, close up lenses and other accessories. The maximum aperture is f/4-f/5.6, and the glass is multicoated for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity.
This is an unusual little camera - an ideal starter SLR, or an excellent addition to an existing Nikon system!
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The camera is in fully working order and very good condition, with just normal signs of use including minor handling marks, small scratches here and there (mainly on the base), etc. The viewfinder is bright and clear. The lens is in the same condition as the camera, and the glass is clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. The accessories are in good condition, and the film supplied is dated October 2011 but has been kept refrigerated.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape!

Includes Nikon CS-27 case and strap, generic front lens cap, plus film and batteries
Compatibility
The Pronea S, like all Nikon SLRs, uses the well-proven Nikon F bayonet lens mount. Nikon introduced a new range of IX Nikkor lenses especially for the Pronea models, but the camera also works fully with most AF Nikkors designed for the company's 35mm models (including AF, D, G and AF-S types), and many independent AF lenses from companies such as Vivitar, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and numerous others. There are some exceptions, but these are mostly expensive, specialized lenses - please contact us or see the Nikon Web site for more details if required. Nikkor DX and independent digital lenses in Nikon fitting will work, but they may only cover the full frame in C (Classic) format, and vignetting (darkening or cutoff at the edges) may occur in H or P formats.
The camera can also be used with many Nikon AI fitting manual focus lenses and accessories, with focus and exposure set manually - the metering system doesn't work with these lenses. You set the camera to S mode and choose a shutter speed, and set the aperture on the lens manually.
Not suitable for pre-AI manual focus lenses (made before 1977). The IX Nikkor lens supplied doesn't fit Nikon 35mm or digital SLR cameras, though adapters are available (not included) for some compact system cameras such as Micro Four Thirds or Sony NEX, with manual operation.
