This is a genuine Olympus OM Zuiko Auto Zoom lens for all Olympus OM manual focus SLR cameras, AF and PF 35mm models with restrictions, and usable with limitations on many Canon, Olympus and Panasonic digital cameras with an extra adapter (see below). It's in generally good condition (though with some slight optical imperfections which are reflected in the price- see below), and comes with lens caps.

This handy lens covers a range of very popular focal lengths, from 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 70mm and 105mm short telephoto/portraits, and of course everything in between. The diagonal angle of view is around 63-34 degrees on film cameras. It's the ideal range to keep on your camera at all times, and is great for landscapes, travelling, holidays, family pictures, portraits and many more subjects.

With a suitable adapter (not included) OM manual lenses are usable with restrictions on Olympus, Panasonic and other Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds digital cameras, with effective focal lengths doubled due to the smaller sensors. This would make this lens equivalent to a 70-210mm zoom lens, with manual focusing and diaphragm, compatible with metered manual and aperture priority auto exposure and stopped down metering. On selected Olympus models the cameras' IS (Image Stabilizer) system works to reduce camera shake at slow shutter speeds, with the focal length set manually.

Normal close focusing to 1.5m (4.9 feet) at all focal lengths, plus a separate close focus facility with its own ring and locking button. This provides very close focusing down to around 0.3m (12 inches) and a macro reproduction ratio of 1:5 (one fifth life size), filling the frame with a subject as small as 120x180mm (5x7.5 inches) on film, and even smaller on most digital. Distances are clearly marked in feet and meters, with depth of field scales and infrared index. The one touch zoom and focus ring has a rubber grip for smooth handling. This is a manual focus lens, but works on the auto focus and power focus cameras with some limitations - see below.

Maximum aperture is f/3.5-4.5, stopping down to f/22 in full stops, and a depth of field preview button is provided. Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure and metering modes on manual focus OM cameras (see below), plus AF and PF cameras with limitations.

The lens measures around 85mm (3.5 inches) long at its smallest setting on the camera, and weighs a reassuring 465g. Although not marked as such, the glass is multicoated for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. Optical construction is 16 elements in 12 groups. Standard 55mm filter thread. It's very nicely made (in Japan) with a metal lens mount, very smooth controls, clear colour-coded markings and an excellent standard of fit and finish.

The lens is in fully working order, and very good condition. The controls work smoothly, and the zoom action hardly slips when pointed up or down, which is common with one touch lenses. Each aperture setting clicks into place positively, the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil, and the depth of field preview works properly. Cosmetically it has a smooth black finish, bright paintwork and just the usual small signs of use, including some surface marks and minor paint wear here and there, etc. The caps are in good condition, and the JCII "Passed" quality control sticker is still in place, though faded.

The glass is generally clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but there are rather more specks of dust and other tiny marks inside than usual. These don't seem to have any effect on normal pictures, but may cause a slight loss of contrast and/or increase in flare against the light. Our price reflects these imperfections, and is somewhat less than we'd normally charge for such a lens.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's in nice shape!

Fits all Olympus OM-series SLR cameras including the M-1, OM-1, OM-1 MD, OM-2, OM-1N, OM-2N, OM-2 Spot Program (OM-2S), OM-3, OM-3ti, OM-4, OM-4ti (OM-4t), OM-10, OM-10QD, OM-20 (OM-F), OM-30 (OM-G), OM-40 (OM-PC), OM-2000 and any other model with the Olympus OM bayonet fitting. Auto diaphragm, full aperture metering and aperture priority auto exposure with suitable cameras. Program mode works on the OM-2SP and OM40 (OM-PC). Spot metering works on the OM-3 and OM-4 ranges, plus the OM-2SP and OM-2000. Electronic focus confirmation on the OM-30 (OM-G). Also fits the auto focus/power focus OM-707 (OM-77AF) and OM-101 (OM-88) with manual focus and aperture priority auto exposure, but no viewfinder display.

OM lenses and accessories do not fit the Olympus Pen F series (though an adapter was available - not included) the screw thread FTL, the digital E-10 and E-20, or any other make of camera.
