This Panagor Varioprox Zoom Close Up Lens is an excellent accessory for macro (close up) shots with a wide variety of cameras and lenses. As it has a standard 52mm thread, it can be used on some digital cameras with fixed zoom lenses, as well as many interchangeable lenses used on SLR cameras (35mm or digital).

It screws onto the front of an existing lens, and reduces the focusing distance. The distance is adjustable from 0.49m (16 inches) down to 0.1m (4 inches) from the front of the close up lens, and there's a large focusing ring with ribbed grip and distances clearly marked in feet and meters. These distances apply when your lens is set to infinity, and focusing this closer will reduce the distance even more. The power of the close up lens varies up to 10 diopter at the highest setting.

The magnification you'll achieve depends on the focal length and close focusing ability of the lens you use it on. The longer the focal length of the lens and the closer it focuses, the higher the magnification. For example, we've checked it on a 70-210mm lens that focuses down to 1.1m on a Four Thirds camera, and at the closest settings the frame is filled with a subject as small as 24x32mm (1x1.3 inches). This is a macro reproduction ratio of around 1:2 (0.5x or half life size) on this camera/lens combination. On a Micro Four Thirds camera with 14-45mm lens at the closest settings (almost touching the front of the lens) it fills the frame with a subject as small as 33x44mm (1.3x1.7 inches), for a macro reproduction ratio of around 1:2.5 (0.4x or between one half and one third life size).

It's solidly made (in Japan), measures around 40mm (1.5 inches) to 50mm (2 inches) long, 75mm (3 inches) in diameter and weighs around 125g. It has a standard 72mm thread on the front for filters and other accessories. Please note that is an add-on close up lens which screws into your existing camera or lens - it is not a stand-alone lens in its own right.

The lens is in very good condition, and the focusing control works quite smoothly. Cosmetically it shows just the normal signs of use with some surface scratches and scrapes here and there. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape!

Compatibility
This zoom close up lens has a Series VII thread, and comes with a Series VII to 52mm adapter. As supplied it will fit any lens with a standard 52mm filter thread, though some lenses may exhibit vignetting (darkening at the edges), which can often be reduced or eliminated by zooming to the longest focal length, or by cropping the image (which will also increase the effective magnification). Smaller Series VII adapters are available (not included) for many other standard filter threads.
