This is a genuine Pentax AF200SA flash unit suitable for many of the company's manual focus, AF and digital SLR cameras, plus Samsung GX DSLRs. It offers dedicated program auto flash operation with suitable models (see below), where the flash sets the shutter speed and aperture automatically, and displays a flash ready indication in the viewfinder. On cameras without program mode it can set the shutter speed automatically, with apertures set manually from a chart in the instructions - you can download a copy free of charge (see link below).
The flash is dedicated with all suitable Pentax cameras (see below). On earlier cameras, dedicated auto mode sets the shutter speed automatically and displays a flash ready indication in the viewfinder. On some models the correct exposure is also confirmed after the exposure. Programmed auto flash is available on later cameras, where both shutter speed and aperture are set automatically. The flash does not offer TTL or P-TTL flash control, but uses its own sensor on the front to control exposure.
The guide number is 20m (65 feet) with ISO 100 film. Auto exposure range is 0.8 to 5m (2.6 to 16.4 feet) in aperture priority or program modes. Thyristor circuitry for faster recycling and more flashes per set of batteries. The flash offers a very wide angle of coverage, suitable for lenses from 28mm wide angle upwards (on 35mm cameras, or the equivalent on other formats).
The flash is extremely well made (in Japan). A locking wheel allows the flash to be fixed tightly to the camera's hot shoe. Even the battery compartment has a proper hinge, and is captive so it can't be lost. Power is supplied by 4x standard AA batteries, and disposable alkaline (included) or rechargeable NiCd or NiMH types can be used. It's very compact at only around 62x97x58mm, and weighs only 160g. Even if you have a larger flash, this unit makes a great backup, and is ideal to carry around "just in case".
An excellent little flashgun for Pentax users!
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
This flash is in fully working order, and good condition. It charges and fires correctly, and dedicated features work properly with suitable cameras. Cosmetically it shows just some surface scratches and scrapes in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are slightly marked (not corroded) but have been cleaned and work fine.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape!
At the time of listing we have more than one of this item, but the pictures and description here are representative of all of them.
