This is an excellent flash unit for Canon EOS SLR cameras, including most 35mm and APS models (but not any digital cameras or the 300X - see below). It's a recent model, powerful, packed with features and in very good condition, supplied with instructions and Alkaline batteries.
The bounce/swivel flash head tilts up to 90 degrees and swivels over 330 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. A secondary flash tube is built in, and this fills in the shadows when bounce flash is used. It can be switched on or off as desired. The flash has a power zoom head which adjusts automatically or manually over a huge range from 24mm, 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard, 70mm and 80mm portrait to 105mm (and longer) telephoto lenses. The head even zooms automatically as you change focal length with zoom lenses.
Powerful guide number varies with the zoom setting, from around 28 to 40 (m), 90 to 130 (feet) with ISO 100 film. This gives a theoretical maximum range of over 37m (122 feet) using an f/1.8 standard lens and ISO 400 film, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. TTL auto, manual and low power settings from 1/2 down to 1/64th for close ups and faster recycling.
Very comprehensive LCD control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances from 0.5 to 18 meters (2 to 60 feet), zoom settings from 24-105mm, TTL, manual low power, multi-frequency and bounce/swivel indicators. Backlight for reading the LCD panel in low light. Ready light, plus test button. Confirmation of correct exposure on the LCD after a picture has been taken. Distance information on the LCD changes automatically depending on settings (read from the camera) including film speed (ISO 25 to 1000), aperture and focal length/zoom setting.
Dedicated TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program, setting shutter speeds and/or apertures automatically. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light with suitable cameras. This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet).
First and second curtain sync modes with suitable cameras. Second curtain sync is great for slow sync situations with moving subjects, providing a frozen main image with a blurred trail extending behind the subject for an excellent impression of movement. Multi-frequency mode gives a multiple flash (strobe) effect, for 2 to 10 flashes at 1 to 100 (yes, one hundred) flashes per second! This is a fantastic feature for showing moving subjects, and will give excellent results for birds and insects in flight, etc. Modeling mode provides a preview of what the picture will look like, by firing multiple flashes at high or low speed. Built in remote trigger (slave) sensor. The flash can be set to fire automatically (at any of the manual settings) when it detects the light from another flash (including one built in to the camera), for multiple flash setups.
This Centon FG105D flashgun is very nicely made, and weighs around 290g (without batteries). Takes 4x standard AA batteries (not included), including disposable alkaline, or NiCd and NiMH rechargeable types. Auto power saving feature switches off power if the flash hasn't been used for five minutes, and comes back on again when you press the camera's shutter release slightly.
An excellent flash unit for most Canon EOS film users!
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The flash is in fully working order and very good condition, with just the usual signs of use, including some surface scratches and other marks here and there in the plastic finish (mainly under the flash head). The battery contacts are very clean with no signs of leakage or corrosion, and the instructions are complete and legible.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape!

Also works with the APS EOS IX and IX-7 (IX Lite) models, but NOT the EOS 300X (Rebel T2, Kiss 7) - see below.
TTL flash units like this one are NOT suitable for EOS digital cameras, or the EOS 300X (Rebel T2, Kiss 7). These use a completely different E-TTL dedicated flash system, and you need Canon's own EX series flash units, or the latest independent flash units with E-TTL from independent makers which are specifically stated to be digital compatible. Not suitable for Canon manual focus cameras, the EF-M or any other make. Please search our other listings for flashes suitable for these cameras.
