This is an excellent bounce, swivel and zoom dedicated AF flash unit for most Canon EOS 35mm and APS SLR users (but not digital models or the 300X - see below). It's in generally good condition and comes with a copy of the instructions, plus new batteries.

The bounce/swivel flash head tilts up to 45, 60, 75 and 90 degrees and swivels over 300 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. Zoom flash head is adjustable for 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (or longer) telephoto. This gives wider coverage or longer range as appropriate.

Powerful guide numbers vary with the zoom setting, from 25 to 38m (83 to 123 feet) with ISO 100 film. Theoretical maximum range of around 33.3m (108 feet) with ISO 400 film and 50mm f/1.8 lens, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. The control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances up to 21m (70 feet), zoom settings from 28-85mm, apertures from f/1.4 to f/22 and film speeds from ISO 50 to 1000. Ready light, plus Auto check light confirms correct exposure after the shot has been taken.

TTL (Through The Lens) automatic exposure system for extremely accurate exposures. Comprehensive control panel on the rear. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light (not all cameras support this feature). This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet), with suitable cameras. This independent Cobra 700AF flashgun is nicely made, and weighs around 400g (without grip or batteries). Takes 4x standard AA batteries, including disposable alkaline (supplied) or NiCd and NiMH rechargeable types.

An excellent flash unit for most Canon EOS film users!

Condition: Excellent++ (8/10), locking ring missing
The flash is in fully working order and has been checked on our EOS film camera. Cosmetically there are just the usual signs of use including some surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The original locking ring is missing from the hot shoe, but it fits well and isn't too loose without it. There's a small amount of play in the bounce/swivel movement, but this is common and doesn't cause any problems. The battery contacts are clean and show no signs of corrosion. The instructions are a copy, but complete and legible.

No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape!

Compatible with almost all Canon EOS 35mm cameras including the EOS 1, 1V, 1V HS, 1N, 1N RS, 5, 3, RT, 100, 10, 30, 33, 50, 50E, 55QD, 300, 300V, 500, 500N, 600, 620, 630, 650, 700, 750, 850, 1000, 1000F, 1000N, 1000FN, 3000, 3000N, 3000V and 5000, plus the equivalent Rebel, Elan and Kiss models and many others. Also works with the APS EOS IX and IX-7 (IX Lite) models, but NOT the EOS 300X (Rebel T2, Kiss 7) - see below.

Fully auto exposure in all modes, including program. TTL (Through The Lens), OTF (Off The Film) flash metering for the most accurate exposures possible. Automatic setting of shutter speed and aperture in appropriate modes, with flash ready signal in the viewfinder.

Most independent flash units like this one are NOT suitable for any EOS digital cameras, or the EOS 300X (EOS Rebel T2, EOS Kiss 7). These use a completely different E-TTL dedicated flash system, and you need Canon's own EX series flash units, or the latest independent flash units with E-TTL from independent makers which are specifically stated to be digital compatible. Not suitable for Canon manual focus cameras, the EF-M or any other make.
