This is an excellent flash unit suitable for the earliest Pentax SF range of AF SLR cameras (the SFX, SFXn, SF1, SF1n, SF7 and SF10), but NOT any other film or digital models. It's very powerful, dedicated with full TTL flash exposure control, and has an AF illuminator for focusing in low light. This one's in good condition, and comes with new batteries.

The bounce/swivel flash head tilts up to 45, 60, 75 and 90 degrees and swivels over 300 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. Zoom flash head is adjustable for 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (or longer) telephoto. This gives greater coverage with wide angles, and longer range with telephoto lenses.

Powerful guide number varies with the zoom setting, from 25 to 38m (83 to 125 feet) with ISO 100 film. Theoretical maximum range of around 41m (134 feet) with ISO 400 film and 50mm f/1.7 lens, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. The control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances up to 21m (70 feet), zoom settings from 28-85mm, apertures from f/1.4 to f/22 and film speeds from ISO 50 to 1000. Ready light, plus Auto check light confirms correct exposure after the shot has been taken.

TTL (Through The Lens) automatic exposure system. Sets shutter speed and/or aperture automatically depending on exposure mode. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight on compatible cameras. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required (with suitable cameras), up to around 7m (23 feet).

This independent Cobra 700AF flash is nicely made, and weighs under 400g (without batteries). Takes 4x standard AA batteries, including disposable alkaline (supplied), NiCd or NiMH rechargeable types.

An excellent flash unit for Pentax SF users!

This flash is in fully working order and good condition. It charges and fires correctly, and dedicated features have been tested and work properly with Pentax SF cameras. There's a small amount of play in the bounce/swivel movement, but this is common and doesn't cause any problems. Cosmetically it has just the usual small scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish.

No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and the battery compartment is clean with no signs of battery leakage or corrosion. Overall, it's in good shape! At the time of listing we have more than one of this item, but the pictures and description here are representative of all of them.

This flash is suitable for the first SF range of Pentax AF 35mm SLR cameras ONLY - the SFX, SFXn, SF1, SF1n, SF7 and SF10.

It is NOT suitable for later Pentax AF cameras such as the Z, PZ, MZ, ZX or *ist ranges. Although the fitting and contacts appear the same, Pentax made some changes to the dedicated flash system on these cameras, and many earlier independent flash units don't work on these models. NOT suitable for Pentax digital cameras, manual focus models, or any other makes.
