Sigma is one of the top Japanese independent lens manufacturers, and this UC-III (Ultra Compact) zoom lens is suitable for many of the earlier Canon EOS 35mm and APS SLR cameras, plus the D30 and D60 digital (but not any later film or digital models such as the 30D - see full list below). It's in fully working order and very good condition, and comes with lens hood and caps.

This focal length range is excellent for general use, covering everything from 28mm and 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 105mm short telephoto/portraits and of course all the focal lengths in between. The diagonal angle of view is around 75-23 degrees (on film cameras). It's the ideal range to keep on your camera at all times, and is great for landscapes, travelling, holidays, family pictures, portraits and many more subjects.

On the Canon EOS D30 (not 30D) and D60 the effective focal length range is equivalent to around 45-168mm, providing extra telephoto power and magnification. This is an excellent range for portraits, glamour, fashion, children and many other subjects.

Automatic or manual close focusing down to 0.5m (20 inches) at all focal lengths, for a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:5.6 (between one fifth and one sixth life size) at 105mm. This fills the frame with a subject around 134x202mm (5.6x8.4 inches) on film, and even smaller on digital. Distances are clearly marked in feet and meters. The manual focusing ring is a decent size, and has a ribbed grip for secure handling. Automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure and metering modes. Maximum aperture is f/3.8-5.6 stopping down to f/22-32, with auto diaphragm and full aperture metering controlled from the cameras as usual.

Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. Standard 62mm screw thread for filters and other accessories, which does not rotate when focusing or zooming, which makes the lens much easier to use with polarizing, graduated or square filters and other accessories. The lens is nicely made (in Japan), with smooth controls, clear markings and a high standard of fit and finish. It measures only around 75mm (3 inches) long on the camera at its smallest settings, and weighs just 285g.

The lens is in fully working order, and has been checked on our film and (compatible) digital cameras. The controls work smoothly with little play, the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil, and auto or manual focusing work fine. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically the finish is very good with just the usual surface scratches and scrapes here and there, including on the rear mount where it's been fitted to a camera. The accessories are in good condition. No dents, dings or deep scratches, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's in nice shape! Canon EOS fit lenses and accessories are not suitable for the FD or FL manual focus cameras, EX models, or any other make.
