Tokina is one of the top Japanese lens manufacturers, and this is a wide angle lens for many classic Minolta SRT, X, XG and XD manual focus 35mm SLR cameras, including those that require MD lenses for program modes (but not any AF models or DSLRs, though it can be adapted to some other digital cameras - see below). It's compact and lightweight yet nicely made, and comes with lens caps.
28mm is the most popular focal length for wide lenses, being much wider than a standard lens, but not so wide that distortion is too obvious. It's an excellent choice for landscapes, group shots, architecture, interiors and many other subjects. The diagonal angle of view is around 75 degrees on film cameras.
Minolta MC and MD fit lenses can be used on the Panasonic and Olympus Micro Four Thirds, Samsung NX and Sony NEX digital cameras with suitable adapters (not included - see below). They work with manual focusing (simple using Live View on the camera's EVF and/or LCD), and manual diaphragm, in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes. The effective focal lengths are increased because of the smaller sensor for a field of view equivalent to a 56mm lens (Panasonic/Olympus) or 42mm (Samsung/Sony).
Maximum aperture is a fast f/2.8, stopping down to f/16 for maximum depth of field. Auto diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with all exposure and metering modes on Minolta manual focus SLR cameras (see details below). This one has the extra MD coupling required for program and shutter priority modes on suitable cameras (see below).
Close focusing down to 0.3m (12 inches), with distances clearly marked in feet and meters, plus infrared index and depth of field scale. The focusing ring is large and has a rubber grip for secure handling. Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light and increased contrast. Standard, compact 52mm filter thread, which does not rotate when focusing, which makes the lens much easier to use with polarizing, graduated or square filters and other accessories.
Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare against the light, with increased contrast and colour fidelity. This Tokina RMC lens is nicely made (in Japan) with a solid, metal barrel and lens mount, smooth controls and clear markings. It's compact at only around 40mm (1.6 inches) long on the camera at its smallest settings - about the same as a standard lens - and weighs around 240g.
A nice little wide angle lens for Minolta manual focus users!
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The lens is in good used condition and fully working order. The focus action is smooth, the diaphragm stops down smartly and is free of oil. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the results at all. Cosmetically it has a smooth black finish, clean paintwork and just some surface scratches and paint scrapes here and there, including some more obvious scrapes and paint wear on the focusing and aperture rings. The caps are in good condition.
No dents or dings, the filter thread is undamaged, and overall it's a good "user"!

Compatibility
This lens many fits Minolta manual focus 35mm SLR cameras including the SRT100, SRT100B (SRT200), SRT101, SRT101b (SRT201), SRT303 (SRT102), SRT303b (SRT202) and other SR-T models, XE-1 (XE, XE-7), XE-5 (XE-b), XG-1, XG2 (XG7, XGE), XG-A (X-7), XG-M (X-70), XG9, X-300 (X-370), X-300s (X-370N), X-500 (X-570), X-600, X-700, X-9, XD5, XD7 (XD, XD11) and other X, XG and XD models, plus the professional XM (X-1, XK) and XK Motor. It also fits the Centon DF-300, plus some recent Chinese Soligor, Centon and Seagull cameras, which use the Minolta mount. Please note that the smallest aperture may not be usable on the very early SR-1, SR-2, SR-3, SR-7, SRM cameras, as the MD lug fouls a screw on the front plate.
Auto diaphragm and full-aperture metering, compatible with aperture priority auto exposure on suitable models, plus MD connection for program and/or shutter-priority modes on the XD, XD5, XD7, XD11, XD-S and the X-700.
Minolta MC/MD lenses and accessories do NOT fit the Minolta AF, Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha autofocus, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras (though adapters and converters are available with limitations - not included), Vectis APS models, or any other makes. Adapters are available (not included) to use MC and MD lenses on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1, G2, G3, G10, GH1, GH2, GF1, GF2, GF3 and GX1, Olympus Pen E-P1, E-P2, E-P3, E-PL1, E-PL1s, E-PL2, E-PL3 and E-PM1, Ricoh GXR Mount A12, Samsung NX5, NX10, NX11, NX100, NX200, Sony NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-5, NEX-5N and NEX-7 digital cameras, with manual focusing to infinity via the EVF or LCD, using stopped down metering in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes only. The IS (Image Stabilization) feature works on the Olympus cameras, with focal lengths set manually. They can be used on the Olympus E-1 digital SLR camera (adapter not included), with manual focusing and diaphragm, in manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes with stopped down metering. Other FourThirds cameras will only accept Minolta manual lenses after modification to the body or lens, which will invalidate the warranties.
