Vivitar was one of the top independent lens and accessory brands, and this tele converter is suitable for Minolta manual focus SLR cameras and lenses (but not AF or digital models - see below). It's in good condition with front and rear caps.

This converter fits between the camera and lens, and doubles the focal length. It can be used with just about any lens (except some very wide/old types, where the rear elements protrude too far), but work best with standard, telephoto and zoom lenses. A 50mm standard becomes a 100mm portrait lens, and a reasonably priced 70-210mm becomes a 140-420mm, which would usually be very expensive!

It couples to the camera's auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems, compatible with manual and aperture priority auto exposure modes where available (but not program or shutter priority - see below). TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the exposure compensation required automatically. A set of scales on the converter show the effective apertures when using cameras without TTL metering.

The close focusing distance of the original lens is retained, so you get extra magnification for close ups. A zoom lens that focuses down to 1:4 (one quarter life size) on its own will manage 1:2 (half life size) with the converter.

The glass is coated to reduce flare and light loss, with four element optical design. This Vivitar Auto Tele Converter 2X-5 is nicely made (in Japan) with metal barrel and lens mounts and a high standard of fit and finish.  It adds only around 25mm (1 inch) to the length of the lens attached, and weighs just 130g.

A nice converter, in fully working order with all couplings work properly. The glass is in excellent condition, with no scratches, cleaning marks, fungus or other problems, beyond tiny specks of dust as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically the black and chrome black finish is good, with only the usual signs of use including some surface scratches and scrapes - mainly on the mounts where lenses and cameras have been attached. No dents, dings or deep scratches, and overall, it's in good shape!

Minolta manual focus fit lenses and accessories do NOT fit the Minolta AF, Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha autofocus cameras, Vectis APS models, Dimage, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras, or any other makes.
