Vivitar was one of the best known lens and accessory brands, and this is an excellent 2x model for Pentax K (PK) cameras and lenses, plus KA and many AF and digital models with manual focus and other restrictions (using manual lenses only). It's in good condition, and comes with front/rear caps and case.

The converter fits between the camera and lens, and doubles the focal length. It can be used with just about any lens (except some very wide/old types, where the rear elements protrude too far), but work best with standard, telephoto and zoom lenses. A 50mm standard becomes a 100mm portrait lens, and a reasonably priced 70-210mm becomes a 140-420mm, which would usually be very expensive. On Pentax and Samsung GX digital SLRs (with manual focusing) the effective focal lengths are even longer, with a 50mm lens equivalent to 150mm. The SR (Shake Reduction) and OPS (Optical Picture Stabilization) features on some of these cameras will work, with the focal length set manually. Not suitable for DA digital lenses, or others with no aperture ring (see below).

The converter couples to the auto diaphragm and full aperture metering systems of PK cameras and lenses, and will work in all exposure and metering modes (see below). TTL metering systems (including TTL flash) will handle the 2 stops exposure adjustment required automatically. More limited compatibility with KA and most AF cameras and lenses, and digital cameras (but not digital lenses - see below).

The close focusing distance of the original lens is retained, so you get extra magnification for close ups. A zoom lens that focuses down to 1:4 (one quarter life size) on its own will manage 1:2 (half life size) with the converter. This is a manual focus converter, but it works with many AF cameras and lenses (see below). Manual focusing isn't too much of a problem with tele converters... with many slower lenses there's insufficient light for the AF system to operate reliably anyway. Electronic focus confirmation will work with faster lenses on AF and digital cameras.

Multicoated (MC) glass for reduced flare and light loss, with increased contrast and colour fidelity, using a four element optical design. This Vivitar 2x-22 converter is nicely made (in Japan) with metal lens mounts, and a high standard of fit and finish. It adds only around 25mm (1 inch) to the length of the lens attached.

The converter is in fully working order, with all couplings working smoothly. The glass is very clean with no scratches, misting, fungus or other problems, but just some specks of dust and other tiny marks as usual, which won't affect the pictures at all. Cosmetically there is only the usual evidence that it's been used with some surface scratches and scrapes here and there, marks on the bayonet mounts, etc. The accessories are in good condition.

No dents, dings or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape!

Compatibility
This converter is Pentax K fitting, suitable for manual focus bayonet Pentax cameras including the KM, KX, K2, K2 DMD, K1000, K1000SE, ME, MX, ME Super, ME-F, MG, MV, MV-1 and others, plus numerous Chinons, Ricohs, Vivitars, Cosinas and many other cameras using the popular PK mount. All models give automatic diaphragm and full aperture metering, compatible with manual or aperture priority auto exposure modes. Program modes work on the Chinon CP-5, CP-6 Spot, CP-X and CP-7M, but NOT on the Chinon CP9AF or any Ricoh models.

It also fits later Pentax KA cameras including the Super A (Super Program), Program A (Program Plus), A3 (A3000), P50 (P5), P30N, P30T and MZ-M (ZX-M), compatible with manual and aperture priority modes only. It will fit the original model Pentax P30 (P3), but for manual exposure only.

The converter also fit most Pentax AF cameras, for manual focusing and aperture priority or manual exposure with auto diaphragm and full aperture metering. Compatible models include the SFX (SF1), SFXn (SF1n), SF7, Z-1 (PZ-1), PZ-1 (PZ-1P), Z-10 (PZ-10), Z-20 (PZ-20), Z-70 (PZ-70), MZ-3, MZ-5 (ZX-5), MZ-5n (ZX-5n), MZ-6 (ZX-L), MZ-7 (ZX-7), MZ-10 (ZX-10) and MZ-S.

The exceptions are the MZ-50 (ZX-50) and *ist, which require KA or AF lenses for all metering modes, so could only be used in manual mode with a separate meter, and the MZ-30 (ZX-30) and MZ-60 (ZX-60) which will NOT work at all with manual focus lenses and accessories.

It's also suitable for digital SLR cameras including the *ist D (with firmware version 1.1 or greater), DS, DS2, DL, DL2, K100D, K100D Super, K110D, K200D, K10D, K20D, K-m (K2000D), K-r, K-x, K-5 and K-7 digital SLR cameras, the Pentax-based Samsung GX-1S, GX-1L, GX-10 and GX-20 cameras, but not other Samsung models. The camera works in Hyper Manual mode with PK lenses - set the aperture on the lens, press the green or AEL button, and the camera selects the correct shutter speed automatically, and displays it in the viewfinder. Manual mode can also be used, with stopped down metering using the depth of field preview facility. The effective focal length is increased by 50 per cent due to the smaller image sensor.

The converter is suitable for Pentax K, PK, KA and AF (F, FA) lenses, but NOT Pentax FA-J (film), DA (digital), Sigma DC, Tamron Di-II, Tokina DX and other types which have no aperture rings.

NOTE: Some independent manual lenses and accessories don't fit AF/digital cameras or the MZ-M, as protrusions at the rear foul the power zoom contacts or other features inside the mount. We've checked this converter on Pentax AF and digital cameras, and it fits and works fine.
