A handy little auto/manual slave flash for adding extra lighting effects, suitable for many film cameras and/or flash units
While the flash on your camera is convenient, it lights your subject from just one position, producing a generally "flat" picture, often with harsh shadows behind the subject. Additionally, its fairly low power may result in backgrounds that fall off to almost total darkness leaving you with a photo that little resembles the scene you were trying to capture.
Add one or more of these Wotan SC18 Servo units to your lighting set-up, positioning them where they will fill-in, accent or add additional light to cover greater areas and your photographs will take on a whole new life. Because each unit has its own slave trigger it will automatically fire in sync with your film camera flash without any cords or other connections (but see the Compatibility section below, as some AF and most digital cameras are not suitable).
The versatile flash comes with its own built-in clamp for easy fitting to a table edge or other surface (up to around 35mm or 1.4 inches thick). It also has a standard 1/4-inch socket on the bottom for conventional tripods and light stands for greater positioning options. The guide number is 18m (58 feet) with ISO 100, uses two standard Alkaline AA batteries (supplied) and recycles in approximately seven seconds with fresh batteries. Exposure control is automatic or manual. On auto, the effective range is up to 4.5m (14 feet) at f/4 with ISO 100. On manual, exposure is controlled by adjusting the aperture and/or distance between the flash and subject. A table on the rear of the flash includes film speeds from ASA (ISO) 50 to 400 and DIN 18 to 27, distances from 1 to 9m and 3 to 30 feet, plus apertures from f/1.4 to f/22.
NOTE: This is a slave flash ONLY, and it does not connect directly to a camera. Please see the Compatible Products section at the bottom of this page for more slave flashes.
An essential accessory for flash users - buy several for a multi-flash setup!
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The flash is in good condition and fully working order. It has been tested, charges and fires correctly with suitable cameras (see below). Cosmetically it shows only the usual surface scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are clean with no sign of corrosion, and while they are slightly misshapen they work fine. The instructions are a copy, but legible.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape!
At the time of listing we have more than one of this item, but the pictures and description here are representative of all of them.
Includes instructions (copy), plus 2x Alkaline Batteries
This flash uses a slave trigger and so is not connected directly to the camera. It can be used on manual focus and most earlier AF film cameras with a built in flash, or in conjunction with other flash units. The anti-redeye feature (if any) should be switched off.
Some later AF and most digital cameras with built in or add-on flashes (using systems such as Canon's E-TTL, Nikon D-TTL, I-TTL, Pentax P-TTL, Sony pre-flash TTL) are NOT compatible, as they emit one or more pre-flashes for flash exposure control which will fire the slave unit too early.
