This is an original Yashica flash unit with bounce head, and dedicated auto exposure control on many of the company's 35mm SLR cameras, plus suitable Contax models (see below), and can also be used on many other cameras with a standard (non-dedicated) hot shoe, including some digital types. It's in very good condition, and comes boxed with instructions and new batteries.

The flash head tilts upwards to 90 degrees vertically for bounce flash, which gives softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. Guide number is a useful 22m (72 feet) with ISO 100 film. Scales on the rear of the flash include apertures from f/2 to f/22, distances from 12 to 11m (4 to 30 feet) and film speeds from ISO 100 to 1000. The flash covers lenses down to 35mm (or the equivalent on other formats).

With suitable Yashica and Contax cameras (see below) the flash sets the shutter speed automatically and displays a flash ready indication in the viewfinder. Choice of auto and manual exposure modes. The auto range is up to around 5.5m (20 feet), at f/4 with ISO 100 film. On manual, with an f/2.8 lens and ISO 400 film (or f/1.4 and ISO 100), the theoretical maximum range is up to 15.7m (51 feet), but as usual actual range will depend on the conditions.

The flash is very nicely made, measures around 120mm (5 inches) tall on the camera and weighs only 165g without batteries. Power is supplied by 4x standard AA batteries, and Alkaline disposable batteries are recommended (supplied). Rechargeable batteries should not be used. A locking wheel allows the flash to be fixed tightly to the camera's hot shoe.

Condition: Mint- (almost as new)
The flash is in fully working order and very good condition, with no dents, dings or deep scratches, but just the usual signs of use, with some surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The battery compartment is very clean with no signs of battery leakage or corrosion. The box is showing signs of age, but the instructions are in good condition.

No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in great shape!

Compatibility
Works with all Yashica SLR cameras with a hot shoe. Dedicated auto operation on suitable cameras including the FX-D, FX-103, MP107/108/109 and AF models such as the 200/230/270/300AF. Not suitable for TTL flash or program modes. Conventional auto and manual operation on other cameras.

Works with all Contax SLR cameras with a hot shoe. Dedicated auto operation on suitable cameras including the Contax 137MD, 137MA, 139 Quartz, RTSII, RTSIII, 159MM, 167MT, ST, RX, RXII, AX and Aria, N1, NX and N Digital, the Contax 645AF medium format camera and the Contax G1 and G2 "rangefinder" cameras. Not suitable for TTL flash or program modes. Conventional auto and manual operation on other cameras.

Other cameras
The flash is also suitable for many non-dedicated camera with a hot shoe, including some digital models. It's ideal for digital cameras such as the Fujifilm 6900, S602, S602 Pro, S7000, S20, S20 Pro, Panasonic DMC-FZ10, FZ20 and FZ30, etc. The trigger voltage is low at under 10v, which is well within the ISO 10330 standard of 24v.
