This is a TTL auto bounce zoom AF flashgun for the original Minolta AF SLR cameras with a standard flash shoe – the 5000 AF, 7000 AF and 9000 AF (but not Dynax, Maxxum, Alpha or any digital models). It will also work on Minolta manual focus SLR cameras with TTL flash control – the X-500 (X-570), X-600 and X-700 only, plus the related Leica R5, R6, R7 and R-E models. This one's in very good used condition, supplied with instructions (copy) and Alkaline batteries. Please read the full description for more important information.
The flash head tilts up to 90 degrees for bounce flash, giving much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash, and reducing the chance of redeye. It can also tilt down by 5 degrees for close up shots. Zoom facility for lenses from 35mm wide angle, through 50mm standard to 85mm (and longer) telephoto. This gives longer range with telephoto lenses, and better coverage with wide angles. Even wider lenses can be used with bounce flash.
Powerful guide numbers of 36m (120 feet) at 85mm, 30m (100ft) at 50mm, 25m (80ft) at 35mm with ISO 100. The theoretical maximum range is up to 17.6m (47ft) with ISO 100 and 50mm f/1.7 lens. Greater range is available with faster film and longer lenses but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. TTL (Through The Lens) automatic exposure system for extremely accurate exposures. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including Program. Thyristor circuitry for faster recycling and more flashes per set of batteries. High and low power modes also provided. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has an AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required.
A comprehensive control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances from 0.7 to 30m (2 to 90 feet), apertures from f/1.4 to f/22 and film speeds from ISO (ASA) 25 to 1000 or DIN 15 to 31. A ready light and test button are provided, while an auto check light confirms correct exposure after the shot has been taken. This Hanimex TZ7000 flashgun is nicely made, measures around 120mm (4.7") tall and weighs only around 280g (10oz) without batteries. It's powered by 4x standard AA batteries and disposable alkaline types are recommended (one set is supplied). The captive battery compartment cover can't easily be dropped or lost, and there's a locking shoe fitting for secure mounting.
An excellent flash for early Minolta AF, manual focus TTL and selected Leica R users or collectors.
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The flash is in fully working order (checked on our Minolta cameras), and the controls and movements operate positively. Cosmetically it shows just the usual signs of use including some surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are clean with no sign of corrosion. The instructions are a copy but complete (in English) and quite legible.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape.

Compatibility
This flash is designed for the Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF 35mm SLR cameras, with conventional hot shoe fitting. Fully dedicated operation with TTL flash control. The shutter speed and/or aperture are set automatically when the flash is charged, and flash ready status is indicated in the viewfinder.
It also works on the Minolta X-500 (X-570), X-600 and X-700 manual focus SLRs, the CLE rangefinder, plus the Leica R5, R-E and R7. Dedicated operation including TTL flash control, auto setting of shutter speed and viewfinder flash ready indication (the display turns off). Any flash should be discharged and switched off before fitting to the CLE. TTL auto flash control on the Leica R6 and R6.2 – the shutter speed is set manually, as these are mechanical cameras.
It will NOT fit the later Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha models (such as the 5000i and 7000i), Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras with Minolta's new type of flash shoe, though adapters are available (not included), for manual operation. Please check our other listings for flash units suitable for Dynax/Maxxum cameras. It's NOT compatible with other manual focus cameras or any other makes, though it may fire on some models for manual operation only.
