This is an electronic (smart) lens adapter for using Canon EF and EF-S lenses from EOS SLR cameras on Sony NEX, A7 and other E-Mount mirrorless digital compact system cameras. This is handy if you use both systems, or if you've replaced a Canon film or digital SLR with a Sony A7 series model, for example. It has electrical contacts to transmit data between the camera and lens, allowing electronic diaphragm control (EDC) and image stabilisation (IS), plus basic AF (auto focus) with some lenses only. The adapter is very nicely made, in fully working order and excellent condition, supplied boxed with tripod mount and generic front/rear lens caps. Please read the full description for more important information.
Operation
The adapter is very simple to use. You fit it to the camera like any other E-Mount lens or accessory, and then attach EF or EF-S lenses to the front in the same way as to the original Canon camera. It has two lens indexes, with a red circle for EF and a white square for EF-S. You can swap lenses with the adapter on the camera, or remove it with the lens connected, as you prefer. In all cases, the camera should be switched OFF before changing lenses or adapters. Once attached, the lens will work in a similar fashion to E-Mount ones. The electronic diaphragm is controlled from the body, and you can use all exposure modes including program. The camera will record basic EXIF metadata from the lens such as focal length, maximum and selected aperture. Lens image stabilisation (IS) is supported too. Adapted lenses are usable in video modes, with manual focusing only.
Tripod mounting
An extra accessory is supplied which screws into the base, providing a standard 1/4-inch thread for a tripod, monopod or other support directly underneath the adapter. This helps achieve better balance and can relieve strain on the camera's lens mount, especially with longer and/or heavier lenses. It's a much more solid connection than the flimsy sockets provided with some dumb adapters (which are often fastened with two tiny screws). The mount is all metal, has two extra locating lugs to prevent rotation on the adapter, and an extra positioning hole on the base for compatible supports. It is removable without tools if required for handheld operation. If an even larger lens has its own tripod mount this should usually be used instead of the one on the adapter.
Focusing
AF may be available with some lenses, but as this is a first generation smart adapter there are some restrictions. Not all lenses offer auto focus at all, and from the Canon and independent types we've tried around half will attempt to auto focus. Those that do work will show the adjustable AF frame on the LCD/EVF as normal. The ones that are not suitable for AF will still provide diaphragm control and EXIF data as described above, with the exception of some older (mainly Sigma) lenses – see the compatibility section below. Any auto focusing will be much slower than usual (hunting backwards and forwards before achieving a lock), may be intermittent, and will work less well in low light and/or with slower maximum apertures than usual. Continuous auto focus and some other features are not available. To be honest, AF with this type of adapter is not very satisfactory and if it works may be considered a bonus.
Construction
This Fotodiox Pro EF-NEX Auto lens adapter is very solidly made with a metal barrel and bayonet mounts, plus a high standard of fit and finish. The front bayonet uses proper leaf springs, electrical contacts front and rear are gold plated, and the interior is black with some ribbing to reduce reflections and flare. It adds approximately 26mm (1") to the length of the lens attached, is up to 68mm (2.7") in diameter and weighs under 100g (3.4oz). The tripod adapter adds 45g (1.6oz) to the weight and around 16mm (0.6") to the height. Overall this is a well made and perfectly usable adapter (primarily for manual focusing), for many of your EOS lenses on Sony E-Mount cameras.
An essential accessory for Canon EOS and Sony E-Mount users.
Condition: Mint- (almost as new)
The adapter is in excellent condition, fully working order (within the restrictions detailed in our description), fits onto cameras and lenses smoothly, locking securely. It's been checked with various Canon and independent lenses on multiple Sony cameras. Cosmetically the adapter is very nice indeed with minimal signs that it's been used, including some surface marks here and there in the finish. The tripod mount screws on and locks tightly, with very little play, The box is complete and in very good condition, while the generic front/rear caps fit OK.
No dents, dings or scratches, and overall it's in great shape.
Supplied in original box with tripod mount, plus generic front and rear caps.

Compatibility
This adapter fits Sony E-Mount mirrorless digital compact system cameras including the NEX and A7 series, etc. E-Mount cameras include the Alpha NEX-3, NEX-3N, NEX-C3, NEX-F3, NEX-5, NEX-5N, NEX-5R, NEX-5T, NEX-6, NEX-7, A3000, A3500, A5000, A5100, A6000, A6100, A6300, A6400, A6500, A6600, A7, A7 II, A7 III, A7R, A7R II, A7R III, A7S, A7S II, A9 and A9 II, plus the QX1. It may also work on future E-Mount cameras, but this can't be guaranteed.
Please note that lenses and accessories for Sony E-Mount do NOT fit the company's A-Mount DSLR and SLT cameras, or any other makes.
The adapter accepts Canon EF and EF-S lenses for EOS film or digital SLR cameras, plus some independent lenses in these fittings. The small selection of Cosina, Tamron, Tokina and Vivitar ones we've tried have been compatible, but some others (especially older Sigmas which are not usable on newer Canon DSLRs either) are NOT compatible with this adapter. These incompatible lenses seem to work until you try to take a picture, when the camera freezes – it must be switched off and the lens removed to restore normal operation. As noted above not all lenses will provide auto focus, and those that do will AF more slowly and less reliably than usual.
Canon EF-S and independent APS-C lenses won't cover the full frame on A7 or A9 cameras, but you can either capture the full area and crop later, or set the camera to crop as you're shooting (resolution is reduced).
Please note that the adapter does NOT accept any other Canon lenses such as R, FL or FD manual, EF-M for EOS M or RF for EOS R digital cameras, etc.
