This original Minolta flashgun is the model made especially for the early Minolta AF SLR cameras – the 5000, 7000 and 9000 (see below) – but NOT for the 7000i or later Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha film or digital models. It also works on the Minolta manual focus models with TTL flash control (X-500, X-600, X-700, CLE), plus the related Leica R5 and R7. It's in good condition, supplied with wide diffuser, case, instructions and Alkaline batteries. Please read the full description for more important information.
TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures in all modes, including Program. Automatic fill-in flash in daylight, including slow sync flash in aperture priority mode on the Minolta 7000 and 9000. Hi and Low power settings – the latter avoids over-exposure close up, and dramatically reduces recycling times. The camera's exposure compensation control can also be used for flash as required. The guide number is 28 (m) and 92 (feet) with ISO 100 film. Quoted range up to 20m (65 feet) with 50mm f/1.4 lens and ISO 100 film, but as with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. The flash covers lenses down to 35mm wide angle, and an extra diffuser is supplied for 28mm lenses.
It works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required, up to around 5m (16 feet). Comprehensive control panel on the rear, with film speeds from ISO 25 to 1000, apertures and distances from 0.7 to 30m (3 to 90 feet). Flash ready and exposure OK indicators. The flash is extremely well made (in Japan), and feels much more solid than many independent flash units. It measures around 99x70x86mm (3.9x2.8x3.4 inches) and weighs approximately 220g (7.8oz) without batteries. It accepts 4x standard AA batteries, including disposable alkaline (supplied) or rechargeable types, with auto shutoff to conserve battery power.
An excellent flash for early Minolta AF and TTL manual focus users and collectors.
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The flash is in fully working order (checked on our Minolta 7000 AF camera), the controls operate properly and all features work as expected. Cosmetically it shows signs of use including some scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish (mainly on top and around the shoe). The battery contacts are clean and work fine. The case and diffuser are in good condition and fit well, while the instruction manual (in English and Spanish) is complete, clean and legible.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in good shape.
Includes Minolta 28mm diffuser, case and instruction manual, plus 4x Alkaline AA batteries.

Compatibility
This flash is designed for the Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF 35mm SLR cameras, with conventional hot shoe fitting. Fully dedicated operation with TTL flash control. The shutter speed and/or aperture are set automatically when the flash is charged, and flash ready status is indicated in the viewfinder.
It also works on the Minolta X-500 (X-570), X-600 and X-700 manual focus SLRs, the CLE rangefinder, plus the Leica R5 and R7. Dedicated operation including TTL flash, auto setting of shutter speed and viewfinder flash ready indication (the display switches off). Any flash should be discharged and switched off before fitting to the CLE. TTL auto flash control on the Leica R6 and R6.2 – the shutter speed is set manually, as these are mechanical cameras.
It will NOT fit the later Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha models (such as the 5000i and 7000i), Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras with Minolta's new type of flash shoe, though adapters are available (not included), for manual operation. Please check our other listings for flash units suitable for Dynax/Maxxum cameras. It's NOT compatible with other manual focus cameras or any other makes, though it may fire on some models for manual operation only.
