This is an excellent TTL auto bounce zoom AF flashgun for the original Minolta AF SLR cameras with a standard flash shoe – the 5000 AF, 7000 AF and 9000 AF (but not Dynax, Maxxum, Alpha or any digital models – see below). It will also work on Minolta manual focus SLR cameras with TTL flash control – the X-500 (X-570), X-600 and X-700 only, plus the related Leica R5, R6, R7 and R-E models. This one's in very good used condition, supplied with a copy of the instructions and Alkaline batteries.
The bounce/swivel flash head tilts up to 90 degrees and swivels over 300 degrees for bounce flash in vertical or horizontal positions. Bounce flash gives much softer, more natural lighting than direct flash. The zoom flash head is adjustable for 28mm and 35mm wide angle, 50mm standard and 85mm (or longer) telephoto.
Powerful guide number varies with the zoom setting, from 25-42 (m), 80-135 (feet) with ISO 100 film. Theoretical maximum range of around 20m (65 feet) with ISO 100 film and 50mm f/1.7 lens. As with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. The control panel on the rear of the flash provides distances from 1.8 to 21m and 6.2 to 70 feet, zoom settings, apertures and film speeds from ISO 50 to 1000. Ready light, plus Auto check light confirms correct exposure after the shot has been taken.
TTL (Through The Lens) flash control system for extremely accurate exposures. Works automatically in all exposure modes, including program. Works in the camera's autofocus mode, and has a large AF illuminator on the front to assist focusing in low light. This operates automatically when required, up to around 7m (22 feet), with suitable cameras. This independent Cobra 700AF flashgun is nicely made, measures around 150mm (6 inches) tall and weighs under 400g (14.1oz) without batteries. Takes 4x standard AA batteries including disposable alkaline (supplied), or NiCd and NiMH rechargeable types.
An excellent flash for early Minolta AF, manual focus TTL and selected Leica R users or collectors.
Condition: Excellent+++ (8.5/10)
The flash is in fully working order (checked on our Minolta 7000 AF and X-500 cameras), and the controls and movements operate positively. Cosmetically it shows just the usual signs of use including some surface marks here and there in the plastic finish. The battery contacts are clean with no sign of corrosion. The instructions are a copy but legible.
No cracks, splits or deep scratches, and overall it's in nice shape.
Includes copy of Instructions, plus 4x Alkaline AA batteries.

Compatibility
This flash is designed for the Minolta 5000, 7000 and 9000 AF 35mm SLR cameras, with conventional hot shoe fitting. Fully dedicated operation with TTL flash control. The shutter speed and/or aperture are set automatically when the flash is charged, and flash ready status is indicated in the viewfinder.
It also works on the Minolta X-500 (X-570), X-600 and X-700 manual focus SLRs, the CLE rangefinder, plus the Leica R5 and R7. Dedicated operation including TTL flash control, auto setting of shutter speed and viewfinder flash ready indication (the display turns off). Any flash should be discharged and switched off before fitting to the CLE. TTL auto flash control on the Leica R6 and R6.2 – the shutter speed is set manually, as these are mechanical cameras.
It will NOT fit the later Maxxum, Dynax or Alpha models (such as the 5000i and 7000i), Minolta, Konica Minolta or Sony digital cameras with Minolta's new type of flash shoe, though adapters are available (not included), for manual operation. Please check our other listings for flash units suitable for Dynax/Maxxum cameras. It's NOT compatible with other manual focus cameras or any other makes, though it may fire on some models for manual operation only.
