This is an independent electronic flash unit, dedicated for various Contax and Yashica 35mm film SLR cameras. On suitable models the flash will set the shutter speed automatically when it's charged, display flash ready status in the viewfinder and work with TTL auto flash control where available. It's also perfect for most film and digital cameras with a standard hot shoe using non-dedicated operation, with three auto and three manual modes. The flash is in fully working order, used condition and supplied with Alkaline batteries. Please read the full description for more important information.
The flash covers lenses down to 35mm wide angle, and an extra wide angle diffuser is supplied for 28mm (or the equivalents on other formats). The guide number is 28 in meters or 91 in feet with ISO 100. Auto or manual exposure with three separate auto settings of f/2, f/4 or f/8 at ISO 100 with ranges of up to 14m (45ft). As with all flashguns, actual range will depend on the conditions. An auto check light confirms correct exposure. Thyristor circuitry for faster recycling and more flashes per set of batteries at closer distances. Manual override is also available at either full power, 1/4 or 1/8 (useful for Strobist operation). The comprehensive control panel includes film speeds from DIN 15 to 30, apertures from f/1.4 to f/22 and distances from 1.3 to 20m. We have included a sticker with DIN to ISO and Meters to Feet conversions which can optionally be attached to the top of the flash. This independent Bell & Howell Auto 28DT CX flashgun measures approximately 105x75x65mm (4.1x3x2.6"), and weighs around 250g (8.8oz) without batteries. Power is supplied by 4x standard AA batteries including alkaline disposable (supplied) or rechargeable types. Locking hot shoe fitting for secure mounting.
A very useful flash for Contax/Yashica users, and many others...
Condition: Excellent++ (8/10)
The flash is in good used condition and fully working order, checked on our Contax (TTL dedicated) film and Fujifilm (non-dedicated) digital cameras, and all features work as expected. There's a small amount of play in the shoe, but this is quite common and doesn't cause any problems. Cosmetically it shows signs of use with some surface scratches and scrapes here and there in the plastic finish (please see our pictures). The battery contacts are clean and work fine.
No cracks, splits or other damage, and overall it's in good shape.
Includes 28mm wide angle diffuser, plus 4x Alkaline AA batteries.

Compatibility
This flash works with dedicated auto TTL exposure control, setting the shutter speed automatically and displaying flash ready status in the viewfinder on the Contax 137MD, 137MA, 139 Quartz, RTS II Quartz, RTS III, 159MM, 167MT, ST, RX, RXII, AX and Aria, N1 and NX, the Contax 645AF medium format camera, the Contax G1 and G2 "AF rangefinder" models, plus the Yashica FX-103 and 230-AF. It is compatible with the Contax N Digital, but as with all TTL flash units on this camera some experimentation may be required for accurate exposure (this is due to the high reflectivity of the sensor compared to film). It displays flash ready status in the viewfinder on the Contax S2 and S2b, with the shutter speed set manually.
The flash works with dedicated auto (non-TTL) exposure control, setting the shutter speed automatically and displaying flash ready status in the viewfinder on the Yashica FX-A and FX-D, the 107, 108 and 109 MP (Multi Program), 200-AF (Kyocera 210-AF), 270 Auto Focus (230-AF Super) and 300 Auto Focus. The Yashica 107 was also sold as the TR7000 and Revue AC7 Multiprogram, while the 108 was sold as the FX-80 Multi Program and Revue AC8. It displays flash ready status in the viewfinder on the Yashica FX-3 Super, FX-3 Super 2000 and FX-7 Super, with the shutter speed set manually.
This model also works with auto or manual (non-dedicated) flash control on the Contax RTS, Yashica Electro AX, FR series, FX-1, FX-2, FX-3, FX-7, TL Electro, X, ITS and Super, plus many older Yashica SLR and compact cameras with a standard hot shoe.
Other cameras including digital
Not recommended for cameras with dedicated flash control (using a hot shoe with more than one contact), other than those listed above. The flash will work fine on many other cameras with a standard (non-dedicated) hot shoe, with the shutter speed and aperture set manually on the camera in M mode, and exposure controlled by the flash in non-TTL auto modes. Suitable cameras include the Panasonic FZ10, FZ20 and FZ30, Fujifilm S7000, S602 (and Pro), S9500, S9600, S100FS, S200EXR, HS10 (down to 28mm zoom), etc.
The trigger voltage is a very low, safe 5.6v, which is well within the ISO 10330 standard of 24v, and even the most voltage-intolerant cameras usually accept up to 6v.
